الدور الصهيوني في تفكيك الأمة

إن المؤامرات و المخططات لتقسيم الوطن العربي إلى دويلات مقزمة ليست بالشيء الجديد حيث تعود إلى فترة الاستعمار الفرنسي و البريطاني خلال العقود الأولى للقرن الماضي. وأهم خطة تقسيم تعرض لها الوطن العربي هي اتفاقية سايكس بيكو و التي كان الهدف منها تقاسم الكعكة العربية بين هاتين القوتين. ولتوطيد ذلك وعدت بريطانيا الحركة الصهيونية بدولة قومية لليهود في فلسطين لتخرج بذلك المشروع الصهيوني إلى حيز الواقع في سنة ١٩٤٨. ولأن البريطانيين و الفرنسيين كانوا يعلمون جيدا بأن دولة " إسرائيل" ستنسجم في منطقة مجزأة إلى دويلات صغيرة لا حول لها ولا قوة بشكل أفضل من انسجامها في منطقة موحدة قاموا بزرع الطائفية لعرقلة أي مشروع وحدوي في منطقتنا العربية.

واستلمت إسرائيل المشعل التفكيكي من فرنسا و بريطانيا لتكون بمثابة رأس حربة للإمبريالية. ولكي تتضح لنا الصورة ينبغي أن نرجع إلى أقدم وثيقة صهيونية حول هذا الموضوع والمعروفة بوثيقة كارينجا (المنسوبة إلى الصحفي الهندي كارينجا). و تشير هذه الوثيقة إلى نفس المخطط التقسيمي الذي نفذته فرنسا إبان الانتداب الفرنسي في منطقة الشام حيث أسست دولة علوية في اللاذقية ودولة درزية في جبل تدمر و دول سنية تجمع دمشق و حلب ودولة مارونية في جبل لبنان، إلا أن الفرق بين التقسيمات الفرنسية آنذاك و وثيقة كارينجا هو أن هذه الأخيرة تضم مساحة أوسع و تتحدث أيضا عن دولة كردية في شمال العراق ودولة للأقباط في مصر. بالإضافة إلى وثيقة كارينجا هناك تصريحات من قمة هرم النظام الصهيوني تشير إلى نفس المشروع. فمثلا التصريح الذي أدلى به شلومو افينرى، المدير العام لوزارة الخارجية الصهيونية، مع اندلاع الحرب الأهلية في لبنان و الذي قال فيه:" علينا إفشال مخطط العرب الرامي إلى تحويل منطقة الشرق الأوسط إلى منطقة عربية ـ إسلامية وهذا ما وقفنا ضده بإنشائنا الدولة اليهودية" وتابع قائلا:"لا يمكنني تصور حل لبناني لا يأخذ بعين الاعتبار حق تقرير المصير للمارونيين. وفي نفس السياق قال مناحيم بيغين خلال مقابلة أجريت له في أيلول من ١٩٧٧ :" إننا ندعم ذلك بحسن نية و بناء على اعتقادنا بأنه يجب أن لا تقضي الأكثرية على الأقلية وأرى في إسرائيل درعا للأقليات في الشرق الأوسط بكامله".

ويتبين لنا أن إسرائيل تسعى من خلال هذه الرؤية المسمومة، المدعومة غربيا، إلى إثارة النعرات الطائفية بهدف إضعاف الوطن العربي و حصره في مربع الاقتتال العربي ـ العربي لكي تعزز وضعها ككيان استيطاني ـ عسكري وتقوم بإعادة تركيب المنطقة العربية ودمجها في منظومة أمنية و اقتصادية، كالاتحاد المتوسطي أو الشرق الأوسط الكبير، بهيمنة غربية ـ صهيونية. و رغم أن المشروع الصهيوني و الغربي يتقهقر نسبيا على المستوى العسكري بسبب المقاومة العراقية و الفلسطينية و اللبنانية إلا أن الجوانب الاجتماعية والثقافية لهذا المشروع باتت تخترق عقول الجماهير العربية عبر الجمعيات الانفصالية و الأنظمة القطرية. ففي المغرب على سبيل المثال تحاول بعض الحركات التي تدعي الدفاع عن الأمازيغية شطب الهوية العربية - الإسلامية بالتركيز على الهوية الأمازيغية و معاداة العروبة والعودة إلى فترة ما قبل الإسلام و التركيز على " العنصر اليهودي للهوية المغربية" و ذلك ابتغاء تضليل النفوس الأمازيغية وتهيئتها للانفصال عن محيطها العربي من أجل التطبيع مع الكيان الصهيوني.كما تتطابق هذه الظاهرة المريرة و المتصهينة مع الحركات الانفصالية في السودان و مع القضية الكردية في العراق

. و علينا أن نستنتج من كل ما ذكر أعلاه بأن كثيرا من قضايا الأقليات في الوطن العربي أصبحت أداة لتقسيم المقسم وتجزئة المجزئ. و رغم أننا كقوميين نؤيد جميع القضايا العادلة من حيث المبدأ إلا أن أي قضية تهم الأقليات ستفقد شرعيتها بمجرد خدمتها لمصالح الكيان الصهيوني و الغرب في إطار بلقنة منطقتنا العربية وتصبح بذلك مشروعا معاديا للأمة. و عليه يتوجب علينا كقوميين أن نواجه هذه الجمعيات و الحركات بشدة قبل أن يتطور الوضع إلى واقع معقد قد لا تحمد عقباه، مع مراعاة عدم سقوطنا في فخ الشوفينية والعصبية.

المبادئ:

1- الإيمان المطلق بوحدة الأمة العربية والعمل الدائم على تحقيقها

2- إن القضية الفلسطينية هي القضية المركزية للأمة العربية وضرورة النضال مع الشعب العربي الفلسطيني من أجل تحرير كامل
أراضيه وقيام دولته المستقلة وعاصمتها القدس الشريف وعودة كافة اللاجئين إلى ديارهم واعتبار الصراع مع العدو الصهيوني صراع
وجود وليس صراع حدود.-

3-العمل على التحرير الكامل والشامل للأراضي العربية المحتلة ومحاربة الاستعمار والصهيونية والإمبريالية ومقاومة كل أشكال التواجد العسكري الأجنبي على الأراضي العربية-

4- التصدي للمؤامرات الصهيونية والإمبريالية والرجعية ضد الأمة العربية و لكل مؤامرات الاستسلام والتفريط والتهــاونوالتطبيع مع العدو الصهيوني والإمبريالية الأمريكية وأعوانها وكافة أشكال الإرهاب ضد الأمة العربية.5- الإيمان بضرورة الكفاح والنضال الطلابي والشعبي وبالمقاومة المشروعة للشعب العربي من أجل تحرير أراضيه المحتلة وإنهاء الحصار الجائر المفروض على بعض أقطاره.

5- تشجيع الشباب العربي في أوروبا بالإلتحاق بالجمعات و المدارس العلياء بهدف الحصول على شواهد.

6-ـ إحياء اللغة العربية و الثقافة العربية ـ ألإسلامية عند شباب الجالية من خلال أنشطة ثقافية و تعليمية - .

ـ محاربة التمييز العنصري و الإسلاموفوبية في جميع ميادين المجتمع الأوروبي و خصوصا على مستوى التعليم وشغل ـ 7-

8-خلق علاقة عضوية بين الطلاب العرب في أوروبا و الوطن العربي من خلال التواصل المستمر على مستوى الثقافي و السياسي.

افاد مراسلنا ان الادعاء الهولندي قرر مؤخرا مقاضاة الرابطة العربية الاوروبية في مدينة انتيوربن البلجيكية على خلفية دعوى اقامها مركز اسرائيلي ضد الرابطة بسبب نشرها رسوما كاريكاتورية تشكك بالمحرقة.

وقال عضو المكتب السياسي للرابطة العربية الاوروبية ابراهيم حرساوي في تصريح خاص لقناة العالم الاخبارية الاثنين: ان الادعاء العام قرر ان يلاحق الرابطة العربية الاوروبية، مشيرا الى ان الملف الان عند المدعي العام، وسينتقل بعد عدة اشهر الى المحكمة التي سترى حينها قرارها النهائي في الملف.

واضاف حرساوي: ان القانون الهولندي يفرض عقوبات بالسجن او غرامة مالية على مثل هذه الحالات اذا ما ادينت بانكار المحرقة.

ويشير احد الرسوم التي قامت الرابطة بنشرها الى كومة عظام في معسكر "اوشويتس" يشكك احدهم بكونها تعود لليهود في اشارة الى التشكيك بالمحرقة، التي يدعي الصهاينة انها قضت على 6 ملايين منهم خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية على يد النازيين الذين حكموا في تلك الفترة المانيا، الامر الذي شكك في صحته اكثر من باحث ومؤرخ وطرف من انحاء العالم، فيما لا يسمح الصهاينة باجراء اي دراسة او بحث علمي حول صحة الامر.

وقال الباحث الاستراتيجي في الشؤون الاوروبية والاسلامية البطيوي محمد في تصريح خاص لقناة العالم الاخبارية: ان نشر هذه الرسوم يعتبر في هولندا جرما جنائيا حيث ان هناك قوانين صيغت بطريقة خاصة تحرم المس او الخوض وحتى النقاش في الارقام التي تتعلق بالهولوكوست، وقد يحاكم قادة الرابطة الاسلامية الاوروبية حسب هذه القوانين.

هذا واتهمت الرابطة القضاء الهولندي بازدواجية المعايير حيث لم يحرك ساكنا ضد مسلسل الرسوم والافلام المسيئة للاسلام والمسلمين حتى الان.

وكان فيلم "فتنة" للنائب الهولندي اليميني المتطرف غيريت فيلدرز مثل اكبر اساءة للرسول المصطفى محمد (ص) كما انه ينتهك الدستور الهولندي، لكن الادعاء اكد مؤخرا انه لن يقدم النائب المتطرف للمحاكمة، بل كوفئ في الانتخابات الاخيرة بمقعد في البرلمان الاوروبي.

Abu Daoud: No Regrets for Munich Olympics

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) -- Mohammed Oudeh is old and stooped, his hair and mustache gray. It is difficult to imagine him as Abu Daoud, the key planner of the assault on the 1972 Munich Olympics that left 11 Israeli athletes dead.

But the 69-year-old former guerrilla leader is as militant as ever: In an interview with The Associated Press, he recounts how PLO leaders -- angry that the Palestinians were denied an Olympic slot -- dreamed up the attack while sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Rome.

And he shows no regret.

Discussing the Palestinians' struggle for a homeland and rejecting the use of the word ''terrorist'' to describe its fighters, he said of the Munich days: ''There was nothing we weren't prepared to do to keep the Palestinian cause in the public eye.''

''Before Munich, we were simply terrorists. After Munich, at least people started asking who are these terrorists? What do they want? Before Munich, nobody had the slightest idea about Palestine,'' he said.

He insists Israel must make concessions if it ever wants peace.

''Today, I cannot fight you anymore, but my grandson will and his grandsons, too,'' Abu Daoud said, addressing Israelis.

Director Steven Spielberg's movie ''Munich'' has revived discussions of the Sept. 5, 1972, hostage-taking that shocked the world. Abu Daoud, who did not participate in the attack itself, has not seen the film, but has read about it and hopes someday to see it on DVD.

The movie focuses on the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency's actions to hunt down and kill those it believed responsible for the assault on the Munich Olympic village by members of Abu Daoud's ''Black September'' group. The group was a violent offshoot of the mainstream Palestinian Fatah faction, and staged attacks on Israelis in Europe in the 1970s.

Two Israeli athletes were killed in the assault, and nine others died in a botched rescue attempt by the German police. A German policeman and five Palestinian gunmen also were killed.

Abu Daoud first acknowledged having a role in the Munich operation in a 1999 book, ''Palestine: From Jerusalem to Munich,'' that caused an uproar when it came out.

After the 1972 attack, he lived in eastern Europe and then in Lebanon until civil war broke out in 1975. He went to Jordan, and from there to Ramallah in the West Bank in 1993 after the Palestinians' Oslo peace accords with Israel.

But when Abu Daoud's book came out in 1999, he was banned from returning to Ramallah after a trip to Jordan, and finally settled in Syria -- the only country that would take him.

He agreed to be interviewed by the AP at a Damascus hospital where he said he was having a checkup.

Talking about the 1972 attack, Abu Daoud recalled sitting at a cafe in Rome with fellow PLO guerrilla leader Abu Iyad and his assistant, Mohammed al-Omari, when they read in a newspaper that the International Olympics Committee had refused the PLO's request to send a Palestinian delegation to the Munich Olympics.

Morale was already sagging after the PLO's humiliating retreat from Jordan, where the late King Hussein had crushed Palestinian guerrillas.

''I remember Abu Iyad looked at me and said: 'Let's participate in the Olympics in our own way. Let's kidnap (Israeli) hostages and swap them for prisoners in Israel,''' Abu Daoud said.

Abu Daoud said he immediately took to the idea, and was given the task of doing the operation's groundwork. After several reconnaissance missions to Munich, it was agreed that eight masked gunmen would storm the Israeli athletes' dormitory and take them hostage.

He said that 10 days before the attack, he went to Munich again and took from Abu Iyad weapons, mainly Kalashnikov assault rifles, that had been smuggled in.

On the night of the attack, Abu Daoud said he took the eight attackers to dinner in a restaurant at the Munich train station, then the group got taxis for the Olympic Village. They carried their weapons in sports bags.

The plan was to cut through the fence and break in. But when the group arrived, the eight attackers were able to mingle with drunken American athletes who were climbing over a fence, Abu Daoud said. Inside the dormitory, the gunmen put on masks and began their assault. Abu Daoud, who had stayed at the fence, slipped away.

He said he had no qualms about the operation because he considered the Israeli athletes, as military reservists, legitimate targets. But he said the intent was not to kill the Israelis but to use them as bargaining chips to free more than 200 Palestinians jailed in Israel.

''We had strict orders not to kill anyone except in self defense,'' he said.

Things did not go as planned. Two athletes resisted the gunmen and were fatally shot, and Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir refused to negotiate. By the time the standoff ended 21 hours later in the German rescue attempt, 17 people were dead.

Still, the Palestinians considered it a victory.

''Through Munich, we were able to force our cause into the homes of 500 million people,'' Abu Daoud said.

Abu Daoud himself almost died in what he believes was a Mossad attack. In 1981, as he sat in a hotel cafe in Warsaw, Poland, a gunman fired on him, hitting Abu Daoud in his left wrist, chest, stomach and jaw.

''It was a Palestinian double agent, recruited by the Mossad. ... He was arrested 10 years later, put on trial (by the PLO) and executed,'' Abu Daoud said. It was not possible to verify his account.

Abu Daoud watches Palestinian events closely, including the election victory by the militant group Hamas.

He said he is opposed ''in principle'' to suicide bombings.

''But then I remind myself that the Palestinians have nothing else to fight with. We have absolutely nothing while our enemy is armed to the teeth. How can you face such an enemy with all its might, if you don't use unconventional and illogical means?'' he said.

''In Fatah, we were a bit lenient and ready to give a little. The Israelis didn't want to give anything in return. Now they have Hamas. If they (Israelis) don't give them something, someone even harsher than Hamas will emerge,'' Abu Daoud said.

''This is the logic of history.''

تختلف المقاربات للقضية الفلسطينية في صف المدافعين عنها باختلاف أطيافهم الفكرية وألوانهم السياسية مما يجعل من الصعب الاتفاق على استراتيجية موحدة للتعامل معها. والاشكالية تكمن في تعريف اصل القضية وتحديد الموقف المبدئي العقائدي تجاهها ومدى الاقتناع بامكانية نقل هذا الموقف الى أرض الواقع وتحويله الى استراتيجية عمل.
ولنأخذ بعض الأمثلة حول ما نعنيه هنا بتعريف أصل القضية وتحديد الموقف منها. أذا ما اعتبرنا أن أصل القضية هو نزاع على الأرض بين شعبين لكل منهما حق بدولة منحه اياه المجتمع الدولي من خلال قرار تقسيم فلسطين فلا بد للموقف من أن ينطلق من هذا التعريف ليعتبر احتلال أي طرف لأراض تعود الى الطرف الآخر حسب القرارات الدولية أمرا مرفوضا وبالتالي نقف ضد المحتل ونطالبه بوقف الاحتلال ونطالب بعودة اللاجئين الى ديارهم والتعويض عن خسائرهم. وقد يجد دعاة هذا القول مسوغا لدعم المقاومة سلمية كانت أم عسكرية. ولكن وبما أن المسألة بالنسبة اليهم هي مسألة نزاع حدودي وقانوني بين جارين لكل منهما حق تقرير المصير فسوف يميل دعاة هذا القول في نهاية المطاف الى الطرق الدبلوماسية والمفاوضات والى التسويات. وبالتالي فان الطرح القانوني للموقف المناصر للقضية الفلسطينية والمرتبط حكما بما يسمى زورا وبهتانا بالشرعية الدولية وهي في واقع الأمر لاشرعية غطرسية يفرضها مجلس الأمن الدولي الذي يعكس ميزان القوى العسكري والاقتصادي، لا بد لهذا الطرح من أن يصل في النهاية الى الاعتراف بشرعية الصهيونية ومشروعها.
أما اذا اعتبرنا أن اصل القضية هو احتلال 'اسرائيل' للمقدسات سيكون الموقف متوجها الى تحرير المقدسات الدينية وحالما يتحقق هذا التحرير او يتم ايجاد الية معينة لنقل السيادة عليها الى المؤمنين بها قد تخفت حدة الصراع ونعتبر أن المسائل الأخرى تحل من خلال العودة أو التعويض عن اللاجئين وقليل من الحوار بين الأديان ومن ثم نصل الى التطبيع. وبالتالي فان الطرح الذي يتبنى أن أصل المعركة يكمن في احتلال الأقصى وغيره من الأماكن المقدسة هو قابل للتعايش مع المشروع الصهيوني في فلسطين اذا ما توفرت شروط قسمة حق ما وبامكانه أن يبرر الاستسلام للمشروع الصهيوني بأنه جنوح الى السلم وتعامل باللتي هي أحسن مع أهل الكتاب من اليهود.
ويبقى الموقف الثالث وهو النظرة الى الصراع من منطلق كونه صراعا قوميا مع مشروع استعماري استيطاني على أرض الأمة وهو وجود لا شرعية له وليس بالامكان اضفاء اي شرعية عليه لا من قرار أممي ولا من أي هيئة أخرى لأن الشرعية الوحيدة على أرض الأمة العربية هي للأمة العربية جمعاء. ويرى هذا الطرح بأن الكيان الاستعماري الذي بني على أساس هذا المشروع هو بالتالي كيان غير شرعي ولا يجب الاعتراف به لأنه يشكل نقيضا وجوديا لوجود شعب البلاد الأصلي وسيادته على أرضه كاملة. عندها يتحول الصراع من صراع حدود (أو سيادة على مقدسات) بالامكان حله بالتفاوض والتسويات الى صراع وجودي بين شعب مقهور وغزاة مستعمرين أجانب. وتبعات هذا التعريف من حيث الموقف هي أن انتهاء الصراع وحل القضية حلا عادلا لا يكون الا بانتهاء الغزو وتفكيك الكيان الاستعماري وفرض سيادة الشعب على أرضه بعد طرد الغزاة منها. هذا كان موقف الأحرار في العالم من كل العمليات الاستعمارية والاحتلالات على مر العصور.
ويبقى علينا أن نقارب مدى امكانية تحويل هذا الموقف الى استراتيجية عمل وماهية هذه الاستراتيجية. ونستقي هنا من التجارب التاريخية للشعوب ومنها شعبنا العربي في الجزائر والشعب الفيتنامي بأن الشعوب التي آمنت بقضيتها ووجوديتها وبنت مقاومتها على قناعتها تلك ولم تساوم نجحت بتحرير أراضيها وطرد الغزاة والمستعمرين. أما الشعوب التي استكانت للمستعمر ووقعت معه المعاهدات والاتفاقات من أجل التعايش السلمي واقتسام الأرض، مثلما فعل السكان الأصليون لأمريكا الشمالية ولأستراليا، ما لبثت أن اكتشفت بأن المستعمر العنصري المتعالي الذي لا يقيم اعتبارا لانسانيتها أصلا، نكث العهود وأمعن فيها ابادة وتذويبا حتى اضمحلت وأبيدت ابادة شبه كلية أما ما بقي من هذه الشعوب فيعيش اليوم في محميات أشبه بتلك التي تقام للحيوانات المهددة بالانقراض بينما رسخ المستعمر كيانه على الأرض التي اغتصبها وتمكن منها بلا منافس.
ان المقاومة والمسلحة منها بالدرجة الأولى، هي التي تضمن البقاء والاستمرار والمعاهدات ما هي الا مخادعات من المستعمر هدفه منها كسب الوقت واثباط الهمم المقاومة وشق الصفوف. المقاومة هي نهاية المستعمر عاجلا أم أجلا وطالما استمر الشعب بالمقاومة ورفض الاذعان لنهائية كيان المستعمر اللاشرعي، أدرك المستعمر بان كيانه زائل لا محالة. ولنأخذ عبرة من جنوب أفريقيا التي أدرك فيها المستعمر بأن مقاومة الشعب الأفريقي له ولدولته لن تموت ولن تخفت فاستبق الأمور معلنا استسلامه وتفكيك نظامه العنصري وقبل العيش تحت حكم غالبية الشعب لأنه كان يدرك بأن البديل سيكون ان يرمى في البحر يوما ما ليعود من حيـــث أتى.
أما المستعمر الصهيوني فمن خلال تركيبته العنصرية الموغلة بالانعزالية والتجبر والنابعة من مزيج للمفاهيم التلمودية العنصرية ولعنصرية الرجل الأبيض أنتج فكرا بالإمكان اعتباره الأشد تخلفا وتقوقعا في التاريخ، فهو لن يقبل واقع الحال ويضع معادلة الصراع قبل ان نضعها له نحن من خلال عقدة شمشون وعقدة الماسادا. هذا العدو سيقاتلنا حتى الرمق الأخير ولن يقدم أي تنازلات الا لكي ينقض علينا ويأخذ مقابلها تنازلات أكبر منا. ومن هنا، ومن خلال الطرح القومي الصحيح للقضية نضع نحن له المعادلة ذاتها التي وضعناها للمحتل الفرنسي في الجزائر ونلتزم بها دون أن نحيد عنها قيد أنملة: 'الحقيبة أو التابوت'!

أصدرت المحكمة الإبتدائية بمدينة أنتوربن البلجيكية حكما لصالح المجلة الصهيونية "يود س أكتيويل" بعدما قامت الرابطة العربية الأوروبية(رع أ)

برفع دعوى ضد هذه الأخيرة بحجة الإفتراء ضد عضو ر ع أ إبراهيم حرشاوي. كما أوضحنا في بيان سابق أن رع أ رفعت دعوى قضائية بعد ما شنت هذه المجلة هجوما ضد حرشاوي واتهمته بقيادة مجموعة تابعة لحزب الله ووصفته بالشاب المغربي الخطير. إضافة على ذلك نشرت هذه المجلة السخيفة أن الأمن البلجيكي قلق بشأن هذه التحركات. وقد صرح حرشاوي للإعلام البلجيكي بأن لا علاقة له بهذه الإشاعات الصهيونية وأن قرار القاضي قرار مناف للعقل ومشبوه. فضلا على ذلك صرح حرشاوي بأن رع أ ستستأنف الحكم و قد إتهم كذلك السلطة البلجيكية بأنها تحضر لحملة قمعية جديدة ضد رع أ بعدما تزامن هذا الحكم مع إتهام الشرطة البلجيكية رئيس ر ع أ كريم حسون بتهجم على أربعة يهود في الشارع. ستتابع ر ع أ هذه التطورات الأخيرة بدقة ولن تبقى مكتوفة الأيدي وستواجه هذه الحملات المسيسة بجميع الوسائل المتاحة

"يودس اكتيول" الصادرة ببلجيكا يوم الأحد 5 ابريل بموقعها الإلكتروني إبراهيم حرشاوي بمجموعة من الإتهامات الزائفة ومن بينها أن هذا الأخير ينتمي إلى حزب الله اللبناني وقيادة مجموعة تابعة لهذا الحزب ببلجيكا. إضافة إلى إتهامه بجمع تبرعات لرجل الدين العراقي مقتدى الصدر. ومن أجل الوقوف أمام حقيقة الأمر قامت الرابطة العربية الأوروبية بنشر بيان صحفي للإعلام البلجيكي تنفي من خلاله جميع الإتهامات الصادرة في حقه وتدين مدبري هذا الأمر وتستنكر الإنحطاط الذي وصلت إليه هذه المجلة الصهيونية. كما أعرب إبراهيم عن تعاطفه مع حزب الله وجميع فصائل الوطن العربي، مبررا ذلك بتشبته بثوابته القومية. ومن جهة أخرى قام إبراهيم برفع دعوى قضائية ضد هذه المجلة الصهيونية.

IS TURKEY SHIFTING GENUINELY TOWARDS THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE?

First and foremost, the Turkey’s discourse during the latest series of Israeli attacks on Gazasurprised many. We need to ask ourselves the following: why did Turkish criticism escalate with regards to Israel, despite Turkey being one ofIsrael’s most important allies?

Regardless of some political contradictions between the Arab world and Turkey, let us begin by stating that Turkey is a historical neighbour of the Arab world. Many similarities are shared between the two, particularly the Islamic creed. This irrefutable fact is essential in order to explain the mass solidarity of the Turkish people with the Palestinian cause since the creation of the State of Israel in Palestine, in spite of pro-western policies adopted by the Turkish government during that time.

Besides that, Turkey was one of the first Islamic countries to recognise the State of Israel in 1949. Turkish-Israeli relations have improved ever since, although some symbolic tensions have strained the relationship now and then.
Despite the emergence of political Islam in Turkey, and its adopting of a more pro-Islamic discourse under the leadership of the former prime minister Necmettin Erabakan, who was the current prime minister, Recep Erdogan’s mentor, Turkish-Israeli relations did not suffer but, instead, intensified.

One needs to take some geopolitical conflicts into consideration in order to understand Turkish national interest in maintaining strong ties with Israel. This is significant in order to understand the Arab-Turkish relations. Let us take as an example Syrian-Turkish relations which were tense for decades. Syria is one of the few countries in the Arab east that is both protecting and supporting the Palestinian resistance. It was also a stronghold for many years for the Kurdish separatist group PKK. This was a tactic for Syria to pressure Turkey which occupies the Syrian region Hatay-Iskenderun since 1939. This reached a climax when Turkey threatened to invade Syria if they continued to protect the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. In addition to this, it is known that the PLO has trained many PKK units in the Palestinian military camps in the Biqa’ valley in Lebanon. These facts are necessary to understand Turkish motives in maintaining strong and fruitful ties with the number one enemy of the Arab world: Israel.

However, there is an important political contradiction between Turkey and Israel when it comes to the latter’s support of the Kurdish militia Peshmerga in Northern Iraq and the close ties it maintains with its pro-American leader Barzani, who poses a serious threat to Turkish national security.

This may allow for Turkey to approach Palestinian and Arab resistance groups differently, foremost Hamas and Hezbollah. Somewhat noticeable is Erdogan’s recognition of Hamas’ electoral victory in Palestine and his distinct conviction of the necessity to involve Hamas in the negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. Turkey however has more at stake than just sustaining a strategic alliance with Israel. If it becomes an influential mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it could strengthen its position in the western world and fill in the political power vacuum in the region where Iran is its main competitor. Arab states have proven that they are too weak and therefore unable to formulate a common Arab vision in the struggle with Israel. We cannot underestimate the fact that Turkey as a regional power is quite risky for Israel, which wishes to remain militarily and politically superior in the Middle-East.

The enthusiasm in the Arab world towards Turkey’s stance, certainly after the verbal dispute between Recep Erdogan and Shimon Peres in Davos is understandable but not comparable with what for example non-Muslim countries have done for Gaza like Venezuela and Bolivia. Shimon Perez was indeed publicly humiliated by Erdogan, but only concrete actions matter and words will all be in vain.

فليعذرني الأخوة والأخوات الذين لا أشاركهم حماستهم لما قام به أردوغان في دافوس

والمقياس هنا ليس ما قام أو ما لم يقم به عمرو موسى، بل ضرورة قراءة الدور التركي في الإقليم بشكل موضوعي

وإذا كنا سنتحمس لما قام به أردوغان في دافوس، يجب أن نتحمس بنفس المقدار أو أكثر للنواب العرب في الكنيست الصهيوني مثلاً، أو في البرلمانات العميلة في العراق والصومال، أو في المؤتمرات التطبيعية أو الممولة أجنبياً، تحت عنوان أنهم يطرحون "وجهة نظرنا" أيضاً...

ولا أعرف بنفس المقدار سر الحماسة لانتخاب شيخ شريف شيخ أحمد رئيساً للصومال على أساس صفقة مع الاحتلال ضد حركة شباب المجاهدين بالمناسبة؟!!

منتدى دافوس هو ملتقى مدراء الشركات متعدية الحدود، فهو مقطورة العولمة، وهو منبر صهيوني بامتياز، وبعد احتلال العراق تبنى مباشرة مشروع "الشرق أوسطية" من خلال مؤتمره الأول في الأردن

وهو منتدى صهيوني وإمبريالي حتى النخاع، وهو لب القيادة التنفيذية لرأس المال المالي الدولي (الإمبريالية) الذي يحكم دول الغرب

ماذا كان يفعل أردوغان بالضبط في منتدى دافوس بالضبط إن كان حساساً لوجود الصهاينة هناك لهذه الدرجة؟

والأهم، ما هو النهج العام للدولة التركية في ظل عبدالله غول وأردوغان وحزبه سوى الاستمرار بأعلى مستويات التعامل الأمني والعسكري والتجاري والديبلوماسي مع العدو الصهيوني في الوقت الذي يعيدون فيه إنتاج لعبة الأنظمة العربية في "إدانة" الصهيونية وممارساتها في الوقت الذي يستمر التعاون الحثيث معها؟

قبل أيام قام وزير الخارجية التركية باباجان بنص حماس بالتخلي عن العمل المسلح والتحول إلى العمل السلمي، وقد نقلت ذلك التصريح وسائل الإعلام

وبالرغم من النبرة العالية رفضت الحكومة الحالية في تركيا تجميد المعاهدة الإستراتيجية مع العدو الصهيوني والعلاقات الديبلوماسية، فإلى متى نستمر بشراء التصريحات المجانية بدلاً من مراقبة الممارسات العملية

الحكومة التركية تقول أن الوقت غير مناسب لقطع العلاقات مع العدو الصهيوني، أهلاً!!!

وحتى يقومون بقطع تلك العلاقات ستبقى هذه الازدواجية أمراً مشبوهاً

وهو نفس ما نقوله للأنظمة العربية: اقطعوا العلاقات مع العدو الصهيوني كي نصدق أنكم وطنيون

وقبل ذلك، لا تشبعونا خطابات وتصريحات رجاء

والأنظمة العربية مجرمة ليس فقط لأنها تتهاون مع العدو الصهيوني، بل لأن تقاعسها ترك فراغاً إستراتيجياً في الإقليم يمكن أن تلعب فيه تركيا وإيران

وتركيا تريد أن تنافس إيران على الإقليم، ربما بالتنسيق مع الطرف الأمريكي-الصهيوني

ولا يقلل ذلك ابداً من أن شعبها المسلم متضامن مع القضية الفلسطينية، وهنا يدخل الحساب الانتخابي الداخلي في تركيا على الخط

المهم، إيران تعاونت مع الولايات المتحدة لشطب العراق وأفغانستان، ثم تبنت خطاباً تحررياً في فلسطين ولبنان، فشقت الشارع العربي كعادتها... فلم لا تمارس تركيا لعبة مماثلة لتحصين السنة من "النفوذ الفارسي" ولوضع موطئ قدم لاستعادة إمبراطوريتها الطورانية القديمة تحت شعار إسلامي في الوقت الذي يستمر فيه التحالف مع الطرف الأمريكي-الصهيوني؟!!

الأخوة الأعزاء، إن خلاصنا فينا، فلا تبحثوا عنه في أي مكان أخر

وما دامت العلاقات مع الطرف الأمريكي-الصهيوني مستمرة على أرفع المستويات، فإن ما جرى لا يعدو عن كونه مسرحية إعلامية يجري توظيفها سياسياً.

ولا يعني ذلك أن الكيان الصهيوني يعجبه أن تتحول تركيا من تابع إلى قطب إقليمي، أكثر مما يعجبه أن تتحول إيران من تابع إلى قطب إقليمي، فالتناقض هنا حقيقي، ولكنه ليس تناقضاً مبدئياً، ونحن نبقى الغنائم في جميع الأحوال

والمقارنة ليست بين أردوغان وعمرو موسى: هل كان أيٌ منكم لأن يرضى أن يجلس في دافوس ابتداءً إلى جانب بيريز؟

C) Al Qassam Brigades executed (53) sniping operations for the Zionist soldiers, some of these operations have been documented and the world saw the Zionist soldiers falling.

D) Al Qassam Brigades succeeded to ambush the Zionist soldiers (12) times, in addition to (19) directly clash with the Zionist armed forces of the enemy face to face.

E) Al Qassam Brigades executed a martyrdom operation against the enemy forces, where the martyrdom Sami Rezik Subeh blew himself up at the mouth of a Zionist tank in Al Atatra area north of Gaza Strip.

F) Al Qassam Brigades stresses that their men had been destroyed in whole or in part (47) tanks, bulldozers and troop carriers.

G) Al Qassam Brigades succeeded to harm four helicopters and destroying a reconnaissance aircraft (it can carry missiles for assassinations).

H) Al Qassam Brigades stresses that the Brigades abducted two soldiers during the operations, the first try was in the eastern district "Al Tuffah neighborhood" in the third day of the ground war, Al Qassam men succeeded to abduct several Zionist soldiers but the Zionist war planes F-16 killed the Zionist soldiers with the Qassam men, Mahmoud Al Reefi martyred in the Zionist attack, also number of Mujahedeen were wounded and they were able to withdraw.

3) We have heard in the beginning of the war that it would be a shocking and surprising war, that mean, it will be very short, but soon the leaders of the war under the weight of failure announced second, third, fourth phase, and new objectives, what is this war.

4) The Zionist leaders of the enemy is lying to themselves and say they have destroyed Hamas force, but today we assure that what we lost in this war is a small and very small, and we have restored the lost during the war and before the end of it.

5) Where is the courage of this army, which fought by the technology from the air and from inside the tanks against people just have a few weapons and equipments, the strange thing that the Zionist army is the only army in the world who used diapers, which means very clearly (Pampers), they do not dare to go down to the field to confront the men.

6) we are saying to the Zionist community that their army is shameful and put you under deception and lies of its leaders. What is the kind of the army who executed civilians as children and old people, women after arresting them, and kills his soldiers …. And your leaders talk about victory … what victory.

7) The promotion of what the enemy tried to tell to you about he managed to arrest number of the resistance men, is totally untrue and ridiculous propaganda, we assure that none of our men had been arrested by the army, and all of the detainees are citizens and unarmed.

8) Zionist army destroyed (23) mosque under the religious hatred fully and partial, claiming use in storing weapons, also Palestinian civilians were killed in these mosques.

Kintar Celebrates Birthday with Rifle in Hand

"21/07/2008 Samir Kintar celebrated his 46th birthday on Sunday surrounded by friends and family from his hometown Aabey for the first time since he was detained thirty years ago. The Islamic resistance and the Detainees Association observed the occasion in a way worthy of the freed fighter.

Kintar was released along with four Hezbollah fighters and the bodies of 199 Lebanese, Arab and Palestinian fighters in exchange with two dead Israeli soldiers in the framework of Operation al-Redwan on July 16.

A detachment of resistance fighters saluted Kintar and gave him "the sweetest gift after freedom", as Kintar described. The gift was an Israeli military rifle gained from the July 2006 war. "I want to salute the Islamic resistance and its secretary general for this trust. First of all, it's a renewal of trust in me as a resistance fighter and secondly, God willing, it will take part in retaliating the assassination of martyr Hajj Imad Moghniyeh," Kintar said while holding the rifle with great pride.

Kintar also received a symbolic gift from Hezbollah official in Mount Lebanon Bilal Dagher. Dagher presented Kintar with a picture joining Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah with martyr Moughniyeh, Haj Redwan.

Freed Kintar was seen blissful when celebrating his birthday away from the prison cell. No more biscuits would be served on Kintar's birthday. After 30 years, Kintar cut a big cake decorated by his picture along with Sayyed Nasrallah, the same picture decorating his family house.

After the celebration, Kintar’s residence in Aabey was overcrowded with people of all ages who came to greet the hero as well as a group of reporters who wrote about Kintar for years and a flood of phone calls from Lebanon and Arab countries congratulating him on his return home.

Operation Al Quds: 4 colonists kiled 45 injured

To share with you the happy news of the martyrdom operation that took yesterday place in occupied al Quds which claimed the lives of 4 colonists. The Palestinian hero rammed a bulldozer into a bus car and some other vehicles. The heroic operation caused panic among the settlers and the occupation forces. A group calling itself the Brigades of the liberators of Galilee, had claimed responsibility for the operation. The hero who carried out the operation is Hossam Dawyyat.

It alsocoincides with the passage of 30 years on the Israeli invasion ofsouthern Lebanon in 1978 and the erection of the occupied borderstrip, which later expanded. It is, therefore, an occasion forcontemplation, revision, and conclusion of lessons on the level ofLebanon and the Arab and Islamic world. Although the occasion has itsown concept, emotion, and moral, ethical, and brotherly rights, I willspeak without introductions because we have much to talk about today. "I will begin from Lebanon and speak about the resistance. Resistance,brothers and sisters, presented a model and strategy in two areas.There is the strategy of the liberation by driving out the occupationforces by the resistance, and the strategy of defence of the homelandand the people in the face of aggression, incursion, and threats. Thisis then a model of two strategies and two concepts about liberationand defence. "This is our message to Lebanon and the Arab and Islamic world on thisoccasion today. It is a clear joint message by all the Lebaneseresistance men and all their resisting Palestinian and Iraqi brothersto the nation. When Israel invaded southern Lebanon in 1978 andoccupied part of the south, the UN Security Council issued Resolution425. We in Lebanon waited for the implementation of the resolution andpinned hopes on the international community. "The need for a joint Arab confrontation strategy was also proposed inLebanon on the pretext that Lebanon alone could not confront Israel.Neither one materialized. The international community failed to raisea finger to implement the resolution and the Arab society failed todraw up a defence strategy because this official society and thisofficial regime had originally lost the will of confrontation. "Hopes were not pinned only on this because leader Imam Sayyid Musaal-Sadr, may God return him safely, had already established anotheroption. It was the option of Lebanese resistance by the people of thesouth and the rest of Lebanon by depending on God and by benefitingfrom the available capabilities. What was the consequence of the wrongbets made? The consequence was that Israel deemed Lebanon weak andunable of confrontation. Therefore, it carried out its large incursionin 1982. The aim was annexing Lebanon to Israel for good and bringingabout a second Arab Nakbah. "Yes, the Lebanese were divided over the Israeli invasion as is thecase with every people in the world and in history. We the Lebaneseare not an exception or a special case in this regard. Throughouthistory when an invading force occupied a country, the people of thatcountry were divided into several groups. That was the case in Lebanonin 1982. This is how the situation in Palestine was in the past andhow it is to a certain extent now. This is how the situation in Iraqis. This is how the situation was throughout the past and how it willbe in the future. "On the issue of occupation and the way to deal with it, people aredivided into several groups. One large group of people takes a neutralstand in the first stage and waits. Another group is not concernedwith what takes place. What is important for it is to eat and drinkand go on picnic on Friday or Sunday. This group does not care who hascontrol over power, sovereignty, and wealth of the country. They donot care about the position the country adopts. All this means nothingto it. A third group is a group of agents and tools like the cheapmercenaries of Antoine Lahd's Army. "These are Lebanese, too. A fourth group has interests converging withthe interests of the occupation. Therefore, this group cooperates withthe occupation as a result of the convergence of interests. A fifthgroup is defeated from within and is desperate, but it calls forcooperation with the occupation in accordance with the theory thatcalls for reducing national losses. "The members of this group usually belong to the educated elite.Another group rejects occupation politically and through the media,but it is not ready to pay the price or tax of blood. There is a finalgroup that believes that its humane, moral, religious -regardless ofits religion - and national duties are to liberate its country fromoccupation no matter the cost, and it is indeed on the ground payingthe price. This group is the resistance group which believes inresistance and which is practically resisting. "This division is normal, historical, and social. It is not confinedto Lebanon. One of the results of this phenomenon is lack of popularand national consensus on any option. Some say there was no nationalconsensus on resistance in 1982 or on resistance in Palestine andIraq. "True, but there is no national consensus on taking a neutral stand oracting as agents or collaborators, or on being indifferent.Accordingly, no option enjoys national consensus. Each group takes anoption and moves on. This is what happened in Lebanon. I tell you andtell all people whose land is occupied that the resistance does notwait for national or popular consensus, but must take to arms andpress forth with the duty of liberation, the liberation of land,people, and prisoners, and the reclamation of pride and dignity withweapons, blood, and dear sacrifices. "This is what happened in Lebanon. The resistance, which was part ofthe people of Lebanon, who belonged to various parties and communities- there were martyrs from all Lebanese communities and from allIslamic and national resistance forces and parties - depended on itswill, jihad, field action, and the hands of its young men and women.The Arab and Islamic world had to extend aid to it. Many failed to doso but Syria and the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as many livingforces in our Arab and Islamic world had thankfully done so. "The first victory came in 1984-1985. Resistance continued and therecame the historic victory on 25 May 2000. It was a clear victory forLebanon, the resistance, Arabs, and the nation, and a clear andcomplete defeat for Israel and the Greater Israel project, which wasmeant to stretch from the Nile to the Euphrates, but ended up beingdismembered in southern Lebanon and the western Biqa and Zionistsdeparted in humiliation without awards, gains, or guarantees. Theliberation strategy adopted by the resistance had thus succeeded. "As for the strategy of negotiations starting from Madrid, it did notreturn to Lebanon a single inch of the land. The waiting strategy madeour enemy stronger and made our country weaker and more desperate.Accordingly, on such days in 2000 the liberation strategy adopted bythe resistance succeeded. "After the 1948 Al-Nakbah, Palestine and its people waited for theirArab brothers to adopt a unified Arab strategy but to no avail. Theywaited for action by the international community but also to no avail.Palestine could have been completely forgotten had it not been for theinception of Palestinian armed fedayeen action when the first bulletwas fired in the first operation. "The main result of that operation was reminding the world and theoccupiers of Palestine that there is a Palestinian people, aPalestinian land, a Palestinian cause, and a right owner carrying hisweapon and sacrificing his blood regardless of the price. ThePalestinians again raised the slogan which said we in millions aregoing to Jerusalem. Even today, brothers and sisters, any Palestiniangain made since the inception of the resistance is primarily due toresistance, jihad, and armed struggle by the people of Palestine andall their resistance and jihadist factions up to the grandaccomplishment and important victory scored under the change in worldequations. "Therefore, the Gaza Strip, which was besieged and separated from theworld, was able to defeat the Zionists' army and force the Zionistsfor the second time after Lebanon to withdraw submissively from theGaza Strip unconditionally and without making any gains. Once againthe liberation strategy of the resistance succeeded while thenegotiations strategy regained only inches of the land in return forceding what should not have been ceded. This means experience inLebanon and Palestine has proven that the only way for us as Arabs, asa nation, and as Muslims to overcome all the ideological,psychological, military, security, political, and social repercussionsof Al-Nakbah lies in adopting resistance as a method, culture, will,and action. "I will now move on to the issue of Iraq and speak very briefly aboutit, too. There is a clear American occupation of Iraq and Americancontrol of land and wealth. The Americans played the game ofoccupation and democracy during the past few years. Today, the realmotives of the American democracy in Iraq have started to be exposed.How? Following the US occupation, the Iraqi people, just like allother peoples I spoke about a short while ago, were divided into twolarge groups. One group believed in the political process and anotherbelieved in resistance, especially armed resistance. "It is normal for us in Hezbollah to side with the resistance movementin Iraq, thus proceeding from a faithful, ideological, intellectual,political, and practical position based on experience. Nevertheless,supporters of the Iraqi political process took their time. Now theyhave reached the difficult and decisive test, which is their positionon treaties and agreements America wants to impose on Iraq and itspeople and wants the government and Council of Representatives tosign. Here the Americans' real aim behind the game of democracybecomes clear. They came and opened the door for all Islamists andnationalists. They know who their friends and allies are. "They opened the democratic game for all so that an elected Council ofRepresentatives would be established and so that an elected governmentwould stem from it. Accordingly, the entire world says there is anelected council and an elected government until the day comes whenthis government and this council are asked to legalize occupation andsign an agreement that would give Americans sovereign control overIraq and make security, political decisions, oil, and Iraq's wealth atthe disposal of the Americans. "Here the Americans were exposed and the supporters and believers inthe political process in Iraq - be they Shi'i Muslims, Sunni Muslims,or nationalists - found themselves face to face with the difficulttest. You say you participated in the political process to cut lossesand deter occupation. Today you are before the test. Will you handIraq over to the Americans for ever or take the decision that Islam,Arabism, nationalism, ethics, and humanity dictate on you? "In the name of all the people gathered here and in the name of thefree people in the Arab and Islamic world, I appeal to the Iraqipeople and all their religious and political leaders to adopt a stronghistoric position that prevents Iraq from falling into the hands ofthe occupier for good. Just like the resistance in Lebanon andPalestine, the various resistance factions in Iraq have succeeded ininflicting loss upon loss on the US Army. "Here, too, Iraq is invited to adopt the resistance liberationstrategy, which was adopted by Lebanon and Palestine. This strategy isthe only way to return the wounded but rich and strong Iraq to itspeople and nation. Brothers and sisters: Before I stop talking aboutthe resistance and move on to the internal Lebanese situation, I wouldlike to tell you that we, too, have given an example on the defencestrategy as we did with the liberation strategy. "The July to August 2006 war gave a good example of how a popularresistance and how a few thousands as Judge Winograd said could holdout for weeks in front of the strongest army in the Middle East.Therefore, we are not talking about a defence strategy that is writtenin books or taught at universities. We are talking about a defencestrategy which inflicted defeat on the aggressor and invader asadmitted by their entire society. The July war changed many equationsand weakened the options of war in the region. "Yes, brothers and sisters, your steadfastness in Lebanon, the bloodof your martyrs, your magnanimity and courage, and your resistance,which foiled Israel's war on Lebanon and its aggression againstLebanon, have reduced the chances of war in the region. The chances ofAmerica's war on Iran have diminished after the lesson of Lebanon. Thechances of an Israeli war on Syria have become very, very slim afterthe experience of war on Lebanon. "As for war on Lebanon by the Israelis, Americans, or those who wageron the Israelis or Americans, we say we in Lebanon, who are the mosthonourable who fought in the July war, will fight in any future war.After the July war, we began to see the resistance defence strategyused in the Gaza Strip. Israel is fighting a guerrilla war in the GazaStrip in the same way as the Gaza Strip is fighting it. It refrainsfrom invading the Gaza Strip not out of good manners or out of fear ofArab public opinion or an Arab or international position. It has afull green light from George Bush, the Pharaoh of this age. "It has a thousand apprehensions about the Gaza Strip and its proudpeople and brave fighters from all resistance factions. Israel standshelpless in front of this besieged, starving, and oppressed strip. Itlost its options and methods became unclear to it. Here, too, thedefence strategy succeeds. It succeeds in Lebanon and in Gaza althoughthere is no balance in armament and economic and financialcapabilities or in international support. "Therefore, we find that when George Bush, the Pharaoh of this timewho is departing, God willing, came to Palestine ignoring thecatastrophe that befell its people and extending absolute support forIsrael, he wreaked his wrath upon the resistance groups in Lebanon,Palestine, and Iraq and upon the countries which support and stand bythe side of the resistance. He promised the world and the Israelisthat Israel will celebrate the new 60 years after 120 years. Bush wasmistaken and will be disappointed because this Israel will be wipedout. "He promised the world that Hezbollah and resistance movements will bedefeated. I tell Bush and Condoleezza Rice, who spoke aboutHezbollah's loss: As long as Hezbollah abides by justice and dependson God and as long as it has people like these most honourable people,you are the ones who will be defeated. "Brothers and sisters, on the eighth anniversary of the Resistance andLiberation Day, I call on the Arab peoples and governments - not onlythe Lebanese government - to make a serious study of the strategy ofliberation and the strategy of defence under the current balance offorces in the region. In Lebanon, we always speak of drawing up anational defence strategy, but I also say that we also need a strategyof liberation for the Shab'a Farms and Kfar Shuba Hills. "While the defence is intended to confront aggression, we need astrategy of liberation for the Shab'a Farms and the Kfar Shuba Hills,as well as for liberating the prisoners. Even then, we say that wewill relieve you of the task to liberate the prisoners. The prisonersare our pledge and our covenant; the prisoners release will be avictory from God realized by our efforts, and very shortly, Samir andthe brothers of Samir will be among you in Lebanon. "I would like to move on to the Lebanese conditions. However, I wouldlike to approach the Lebanese conditions as of 25 May 2000, in BintJubayl. The crowds were standing there and I was at their service. Istood as speaker on their behalf. I had the honour of declaring theirvictory and sacrifices, to voice pride in the blood of their martyrs,and present their victory to all of Lebanon, to all of Palestine, andto the entire nation. "Brothers and sisters, when I stood in Bint Jubayl - and you allrecall this - I said: We in this place have carried out our duty andwe will be pleased with God's satisfaction because we have carried outour duties. We do not want any thanks from anyone, any reward fromanyone, or any gift from anyone. I said that we did not wantauthority. "This land, this territory, which has been liberated by the blood ofthe resistance martyrs - all the resistance martyrs - belongs to theLebanese state and authority. Then let the Lebanese authority shoulderresponsibility for it, on the security, judicial, social, and economiclevels. We do not want to take responsibility for any kind of securityor administration. Did we not say this? Did our deeds contradict ourwords? Absolutely not. "We have never held a trial for any agent. We handed the agents overto the Lebanese judiciary. We did not display any armed presence alongthe entire border strip, which was liberated by our blood. We told thestate: Here you are, take over. "True we asked two things from them:We said that the areas that experienced confrontations with Israel inthe south must have some attention for their development. I meant bythat areas that fought and offered martyrs in the south, the deprivedareas - and I mentioned the names of these places; Ba'labakk,Al-Hirmil and Akkar. "What have you done? I address those who have been demanding theimposition of state authority. Who prevented you from going to theborder Strip and the disadvantaged areas to carry out your duties as astate? The Lebanese people know but let our Arab brothers know aswell. There are areas in Lebanon that know only the state's policemenand tax collectors. They have not seen development, care, or services. "In any case, I stood there and said this. Later, my brothers and Iwere asked and we replied. We did not request a change in thepolitical structure of the regime. We did not request an amendment ofthe Al-Ta'if Agreement. We did not demand a share in power or a sharein the administration. We did not request anything at all. Was notthis what happened? "Yet, they theorize to us on the French resistance, the Vietnameseresistance, and the Indian resistance and so on. They tell us thatafter the liberation, resistance forces should hand over theirweapons. I tell them: All the triumphant resistance movements inhistory - let us benefit from history - either took over power ordemanded power after their triumph. We have not demanded power in thefirst place. We told them: The power is yours but do not monopolizethis power and do not exclude others. Be fair, take care of thepeople, solve people's social and economic problems, preserve thepeople's dignity. We have not even asked for a share in power afterthe 2000 victory. We left the power to you. "Who can deny this fact? Today, I repeat and say, and I am speakingabout Hezbollah in particular: We do not want to control Lebanon, wedo not want to rule Lebanon, and we do not want to impose our ideologyor project on the Lebanese people because we believe that Lebanon is aspecialist country, a pluralist and diverse country, and one that canonly survive through the participation, cooperation, and cohesion ofeveryone and that is what we had been demanding. "Many tried to twist this fact through their media. They imagine thatthey insult us when they call us the party of the Velayat-e Faqih.Absolutely not. Today I declare, and this is nothing new, that I amproud of being a member of the Velayat-e Faqih party, the wise faqih,the scholar faqih, the courageous faqih, the truthful and sincerefaqih. I tell them: Velayat-e Faqih tells us, its party, that Lebanonis a diverse and pluralist country that you must preserve. "During recent events, much has been said. It was said that the aimbehind these events had been to bring Lebanon under the control ofthis or that side. They talked about a coup, a change of power, andreturn of Syria to Lebanon. They talked and talked, exactly as theytalked during the July war. The United States said: Lebanon iswitnessing the birth pangs of a new Middle East. The United Statessponsored the war. They said that the resistance was fighting for theIranian nuclear programme and the international tribunal. "Today also they say this. However, the opposition demonstrated itsposition through its performance after the illegitimate governmentretreated from it infamous decisions, and through its attitude duringthe Doha talks and the Doha agreement; namely, that it did not stage acoup, that it did not want power or the monopoly of power, and that itwould not change a single letter of the political terms that it hadpresented before the events. "The cadres and broad base of the popular resistance have the right todemand that we raise our political ceiling following the events inLebanon because, according to them, certain changes had taken place,but we have not changed any conditions, alter any word, or raise anyceilings but went there because we wanted to save Lebanon from whatwas worse, because we wanted to save Lebanon from fighting between theArmy and the resistance, because we wanted to save Lebanon fromsectarian war, and because we wanted to save Lebanon from the hotsummer, which Pharaoh's adviser David Welch and his masters promisedLebanon. "We never exploited politically what happened at all and neverdemanded any political gains despite the unfair accusations that hadbeen levelled against us and despite the defamation and sinful attacksby many. I do not want to open this dossier today. "Is this experiment not sufficient to end the current controversy inLebanon by those who accuse us of demanding control and themonopolization of power and so on? "Brothers and sisters, on the Day of Resistance and Liberation in thebrave southern Suburb of Beirut, as was the case in Bint Jubayl, Irenew the call for a genuine national partnership in which no one willbe excluded, vanquished, or cancelled, and where nobody will beimposed on anybody else. I call for giving the Lebanese theopportunity of building a genuine and just state, a state ruled by therepresentatives of these people, representatives who are elected withhonesty and integrity, and by firm and sincere alliances, and givingthe Lebanese people the opportunity of working together withoutlistening to those aboard. "A few days ago, the Saudi Council of Ministers demanded effectingconstitutional changes in Lebanon to ensure maintaining Lebanon's Arabidentity. By the way, I have not discussed this issue with any one,not even with my brothers, and nobody thought of mentioning it.However, I would like to mention it now. I personally - the party willannounce this later - I personally agree on effecting constitutionalamendments - I, the member of the Velayat-e Faqih party, approveconstitutional amendments ensuring Lebanon's Arab identity andpreventing anyone from interfering in Lebanese affairs. They shouldhave talked instead about US and Western interference in Lebanon. "As for our friends, the entire world knows that they do not dictateany decisions to us. We in the Lebanese national resistance were ourown decisionmakers on the ground and during the negotiations and inDoha. "Brothers and sisters, concerning recent events, I am facing today twoalternatives: Either I explain, detail, and clarify what happened whenthe two decisions were made and the developments that led to them, aswell as their dangers and significance - and I have explained part ofthis in the news conference last Thursday - as well as therepercussions of events and what we said, what was said, and what weare saying. I am aware that this will lead to the restoration oftension and strain to Lebanon. I do not want to disturb the Lebanesepeople's happiness today, their agreement, their consensus, and theirelecting a new president of Lebanon. "The second alternative is to postpone all this discussion, and leavesome issues unexplained in the minds of some, ambiguous to others, andunfair to us, but I would like to postpone all this discussion andtolerate the unfair charges against our resistance and movement. Myaim is to serve the interests of the Lebanese people and bring themtogether. However, in view of the recent events, I have to say a fewwords and make a few points on the current Lebanese situation. "I must say: True, there have been wounds. Big wounds were inflictedon our side and on their side. We are both facing two alternatives:Either we add insult to these injuries, or work for dressing andtreating them for the sake of Lebanon and the people of Lebanon. Wesupport the second alternative; namely, dressing the wounds andbringing people together. "We are for the second option, which is nursing the wounds andreunion. This necessitates words and deeds and we are ready for this.What is most important is to learn lessons, each within its ownentity. I do not want to stand today to deduce lessons which could beinterpreted as if I am speaking with the logic of the victor or thetriumphant, not at all. "I know that discussing lessons will also lead to congestion andtension. So, let us postpone the opening of this wound now, and wewill open it at a later time when people calm down, when logic andreason are given a chance, and when we proceed and give priority tonursing wounds and launching a new stage in Lebanon, which is thestage of the post-25 May 2008, or after the national, Arab, andinternational festival, which we saw at the Lebanese Chamber ofDeputies yesterday. "Brothers and sisters: In light of these developments, we shoulddiscuss the following points: "First: On behalf of all of you, I thank our Arab brothers, the Arabministerial committee, and the Arab League and its secretary general.Special thanks go for the State of Qatar, leadership and people; allfraternal and friendly states, particularly Syria and the IslamicRepublic of Iran; and all Lebanon's friends who have contributed tothis agreement. "Second: Regarding the weapons issue, yes, Today, I reiterate mysupport for the clause in the Doha agreement which prohibits the useof weapons to achieve any political gains by all sides. I and we inHezbollah strongly support this clause. When we begin discussion, wewill discuss these issues. However, listen a little to me: Theresistance weapons are to be used to confront the enemy, liberate theland and the prisoners, and contribute to defending Lebanon, and notto achieve political gains. "So, against who were the other weapons? Against who were theystockpiled them? Against who were they prepared, and against whomtrainings were taking place on them? A question: The weapons of thestate, which are the weapons of the army and the security forces, arefor defending the homeland, protecting citizens and their variousrights, protecting the state, and enforcing security. The weapons ofthe resistance must not be used for any internal political gain.However, the weapons of the state also must not be used to settlescores with a political opposition party. "The state's weapons must not be used in favour of foreign plans thatweaken Lebanon's strength and impregnability in confronting Israel.The state's weapons must not be used to target the resistance and itsweapons. Each weapon should remain in the service of the goal it wasmade for and was there for, whether it is the state's weapon or theresistance weapon. "Third: As for the election law, undoubtedly, the law we have agreedon provides a better representation than the pervious laws, especiallythe law issued in 2000. This law was reached at the expense of somesects and parties of the opposition, the foremost of which isHezbollah and the Amal Movement. "However, we accepted this law because it provides betterrepresentation than the previous effective laws, which might beaccepted by the other side. However, we do not say that it is the bestelection law at all. This is a compromise law, a settlement amongparties that want to rescue Lebanon from its crisis. We hope that aday will come when the Lebanese will be able to sit calmly and withcalm nerves in order to discuss a civilized and a modern election lawthat would lay the foundations of the state. "Brothers and sisters, the intentions of all those who say that theywant to establish a state become exposed when they talk about theelection law. In Lebanon, the prelude to the establishment of thestate, the prelude to reforming the authority, and the prelude toreforming the authority and the government and its institutions, isthe election law. When any of us tailors an election law to fit hisperson and leadership, party, or sect, then this means that he doesnot want to build a state. "It is not enough to accuse others that they do not want a state.Anyone who does not give the Lebanese a just and modern election lawthat enables them to be really represented in the state's institutionsseeks to have a farm and not a state. At any rate, this is thepossible settlement. We hope that the Lebanese will be able to come upwith a better election law in the future. "Fourth: The election of Brigadier General Michel Sulayman as apresident of the republic renews the hope of the Lebanese people for anew era and a new start. The oath-taking speech, which we heardyesterday, expresses the unionist spirit on whose basis his Excellencyhas promised to act at the coming stage. This is what Lebanon needs -accord, partnership, and cooperation away from monopoly. "Fifth: The national unity government, based on a real partnershipbetween the opposition and the pro-government party, is not a victoryachieved by the opposition over the pro-government forces, but it is avictory for Lebanon, all Lebanon, the Lebanese people, coexistence,and the plan of the state. "This is particularly true since this country will never stand up,survive, be reconstructed, last forever, and stand fast except basedon cooperation, accord, and solidarity. When I addressed you when youwere staging a sit-in in the Al-Shuhada and Riyad al-Sulh squares andtold you that we stage a sit-in because we want a national unitygovernment, I knew at the time that the issue needs some time.However, I promised you and told you that as I have always promisedyou victory, I once again promise you to achieve victory. "However, I did not mean victory by one side over another, a groupover another, or victory by the opposition over the pro-government!forces, but I used to believe that the victory of Lebanon can beachieved through the formation of a national unity government. When anagreement was reached in Doha on the national unity government, thevictory was for Lebanon. Just as Lebanon's victory on 25 May 2000 wasnot a victory for a sect, a group, or a political trend, but for allLebanon, Lebanon's victory in 2006 and Lebanon's victory in the Dohaagreement. "As for the government, God willing, we will sincerely and seriouslycontribute to expediting the formation of this government so that itwould begin carrying out its duties. I have previously promised thatother opposition groups will also be present and that the opposition'srepresentation in the government will not be confined to the AmalMovement, Hezbollah and the Reform and Change Bloc, but the chanceshould be given to other opposition forces, though, regrettably, fromHezbollah's share, especially since Lebanon's structure is one ofshares and quotas. We will work with all resolution and seriousness toallow the opposition to be represented in the best way possible in thecoming national unity government. "We hope that this government will be a serious government that wouldwork on resolving the great problems facing the Lebanese people,especially since much time was lost of their life. We hope that itwill not be a government to kill time or a government that is governedby the mentality of the coming elections, but a responsible governmentthat is serious about assuming its responsibility. "The next point, perhaps it is fifth or sixth, God knows. I sincerelycall - as long as we are talking about the coming government and thecoming stage - particularly on the Trend and those who love MartyrPrime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri to learn a lesson from the greatexperience of this great man and from the prospects of his strategicthinking about Lebanon. "He was able to reconcile the reconstruction plan and that of buildingthe state with the resistance plan with open mind and heart. "This is the formula that we have lived and through which we coexistedas a resistance with Martyr Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri. Anyone whois faithful to the heritage of this great martyr should work to revivethis example. This is not a call for a bilateral, tripartite, orquadripartite alliance. This is something of the past. We call forcooperation among all sides, for alliance among all sides, and for theparticipation of the largest possible segment of the vital politicalforces in Lebanon. Monopoly should not take place over a sect,position, authority, or institution. "Brothers and sisters: The point before the last [words indistinct] Istrongly hope and pray to Almighty God that the Lebanese will have acalm and peaceful summer. Come and let us cooperate. There are twodreams; a Lebanese dream and an American dream. The Lebanese dreamspeaks about a calm and peaceful summer and the American dream speaksabout a hot summer. Come and let us realize our dreams, and not thedreams of our enemies. "All thanks to the Druze nationalist leaders of Bani Ma'ruf and themountain of the steadfast resistance people for their courageous andnationalist stands, whether they are scholars, preachers, politicalleaders, media men, and forces and parties, because with their voiceand courage, they have prevented anyone from showing the world thatwhat is taking place is a Shi'i-Druze sedition. أعلنت حركة المقاومة الإسلامية (حماس) مسؤوليتها عن إصابة مروحية عسكرية إسرائيلية كانت تحلق في أجواء قطاع غزة، في حادث أقرت به إسرائيل وقالت إنه بالغ الخطورة، في الوقت الذي عقد فيه اجتماع ثلاثي في القدس هو الأول منذ مؤتمر أنابوليس.

في قطاع غزة قالت كتائب القسام الجناح العسكري لحركة حماس إنها أصابت مروحية عسكرية إسرائيلية، ما اضطرها لمغادرة أجواء غزة، فيما نقل التلفزيون الإسرائيلي عن مصادر عسكرية إسرائيلية أن الأجهزة الأمنية تفحص نوعية السلاح الذي استخدم في إصابة الطائرة.

والحادث هو الأول من نوعه منذ احتلال قطاع غزة في العام 1967.

8 colonists killed, tens injured

With great hapiness we received the news on the heroic operation wich took yesterday place in the occupied Arab city, Al-Quds(Jeruzalem). According to enemy sources eight colonists were killed,and several others were injured. The hero who succeeded to carry out the resistance operation is Alaa Abu Dheim.
Congratulations for all the Palestinian and Arab people on the success of this martyrdom operation. We noted the fear and panic among the leaders of the Zionist entity and we hope that this operation is just the beginning of the pay-back for the holocaust in Gaza.
As long as the Zionists are present in Palestine, our Nation has no choice then to continue the path of armed resistance until the last zionist leaves our Land.

Israeli 'Operation Hot Winter' in the Gaza strip ended its 'first step', four days after it started, without achieving any notable 'accomplishment'. The achievement was however on the Palestinian side. The Palestinian Resistance succeeded in creating a new balance of fear vis-à-vis Israeli forces. Their rocket attacks against Israeli settlements did not stop knowing that the main goal of the Israeli military operation was to put an end to such attacks. Furthermore, a new phase in Israeli-Palestinian conflict has begun; Ashkelon has entered the range of Palestinian resistance rockets and settlements beyond 'Asheklon' stand prepared to face such a threat.

In this context, Israeli analyst Alon Ben David noted that a new balance has been created. "Any escalation in Gaza now means rocket salvos into Ashkelon. It was important for the Palestinians to have the last say in this round. There is no military way to stop these rockets militarily", he said.

The total fiasco of the ground operation as well as the Israeli army's unwillingness to pay a high price of its soldiers pushed the Israeli leadership into using a new means of engagement. In addition to IAF raids, the Israeli political and military leaderships legalized the bombing of civil areas of under the pretext of retaliating to rocket attacks.

Israeli vice Prime Minister Hayim Ramon said that Israeli forces had to launch bombs on Palestinian territories instead of sending in soldiers. "We are able to determine within seconds the exact place from which rockets are being launched. The other party has to know that for each rocket launched, there will be an immediate reaction. This is what we used to do when we used to bomb Lebanese villages," he said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli daily Ma'ariv published a report showing widespread shock conditions among Israeli settlers around Gaza. The report said that settlers have been seeing nightmares, going through nervous breakdowns and suffering from pains of unknown causes. "Some of the settlers even become paralyzed," the report added.

"I have a bad feeling and we are seriously thinking of emigrating from the country. I'm always depressed. Why do I have to continue living in such an atmosphere? It would be better for me to go to the U.S. or any other quieter place", one settler said.

For their part, the settlers of the 'Ashdod' city expressed fear that they might become rocket targets after 'Asheklon'. They warned the Israeli government that if this happened, then 'Tel Aviv" would also become in real danger.

مشعل: ما يجري في غزة على يد الاحتلال "هولوكوست" ومن يسكت على الجريمة شريك فيها

أكد رئيس المكتب السياسي لحركة المقاومة الإسلامية "حماس" خالد مشعل، أن دولة الكيان الصهيوني تنفذ منذ ستين عاماً "هولوكوست" بحق الشعب الفلسطيني، وقال: "ما يجري الآن بحق أبناء شعبنا في غزة على أيدي الاحتلال هو هولوكوست جديد".

واتهم رئيس السلطة الفلسطينية محمود عباس بأنه "يوفر غطاء لهذا الهولوكوست على غزة بقصد أو بدون قصد"، في إشارة إلى تصريحات عباس التي ادّعى فيها بأن هناك عناصر من القاعدة في قطاع غزة وأيضاً إدانته الصريحة للمقاومة وصواريخها.

وقال مشعل في مؤتمر صحفي عقده في مقر وزارة الإعلام السورية بدمشق بعد ظهر اليوم السبت (1/3)، موجهاً حديثه للمجتمع الدولي، "إن الشعب الفلسطيني هو الضحية وإسرائيل هي المعتدية والجلاد، ومن يسكت على جرائمها فإنه شريك في تلك الجرائم"، مضيفاً أنه "من العار على الدول الأوروبية والغربية أن يريحوا ضمائرهم تجاه ما فعله النازيون بحق اليهود في الحرب العالمية الثانية، بأن يسمحوا للصهاينة بارتكاب هولوكوست بحق الشعب الفلسطيني".

ومضى مشعل إلى القول: "إن المعركة قد فرضت علينا، وليس أمامنا سوى الصمود والدفاع عن أنفسنا وأبنائنا وأعراضنا"، وأضاف موجهاً كلامه لرئيس حكومة الاحتلال أيهود أولمرت وقادة الكيان الصهيوني: "إن اخترتم اجتياح غزة فسوف نقاومكم ونحاربكم حرب الأسود وسيواجهكم على أرض غزة 1.5 مليون إنسان بإرادتهم وإيمانهم وحبهم للشهادة، وبالسلاح المتواضع الذي بين أيديهم".

وتابع حديثه للصهاينة بالقول: "أنتم تعيشون لحظة تاريخية تستغلون فيها الدعم الأمريكي والضعف العربي، لكن ذلك لن يستمر طويلاً، فالحبل السري بينكم وبين أمريكا لن يستمر والضعف العربي لن يستمر أيضاً".

وأكد مشعل أن السلطة ليست هدفاً بالنسبة لحماس، وقال: "إذا نجحتم أيها الصهاينة في إسقاط السلطة في غزة، وربما أيضاً في الضفة الغربية، فلن تتمكنوا من النيل من عزيمة شعبنا وإصراره على استرداد حقوقه المغتصبة".

وشدد مشعل على ضرورة إنهاء الانقسام في الساحة الفلسطينية وحل الخلافات العربية ـ العربية لمواجهة الاحتلال ومخططاته العدوانية ضد الشعب الفلسطيني والأمة العربية، وقال: "كنّا نود في هذه اللحظة التي ينزف فيها الدم الفلسطيني، أن تكون لحظة يستيقظ فيها العقل والضمير وأن نذهب إلى طاولة الحوار غير المشروط ونعيد ترتيب أوضاعنا الداخلية، كما نعيد توحيد الصف العربي"، وأكد استعداد حركته للذهاب إلى حوار غير المشروط في أي بلد عربي، مشيراً في هذا الصدد إلى أن رئيس السلطة محمود عباس قد وافق على المبادرة اليمنية مؤخراً بعد أن كان رفضها قبل عدة أشهر، وذلك لأنها قد عدلت وأصبحت تتضمن في بندها الأول شروطه "التعجيزية".

وانتقد مشعل بشدّة تصريحات بعض الفلسطينيين والعرب والتي يهاجمون فيها صواريخ المقاومة ويصفونها بأنها صواريخ "عبثية" و"غبية" وبأنها عبارة عن "ألعاب نارية" وأنها
"سبب الحصار" وأنها تعطي الذرائع للعدوان، مبيّناً أن المبررات المتعلقة بوقف إطلاق الصواريخ والتي يسوق لها الاحتلال لتبرير عدوانه بأنها أوهى من خيوط العنكبوت، وقال: "إن الصواريخ هي رد فعل على العدوان الصهيوني".

وأضاف: "قلنا للمسؤولين العرب والأوروبيين من يستطيع أن يأتي لنا بالتزام صهيوني بوقف العدوان على الضفة وغزة، فنحن جادون بوقف الصواريخ، العلةّ ليست عندنا وإنما عند الاحتلال الصهيوني".

ومضى إلى القول: "نحن نريد الحرية، نريد تقرير المصير، نريد أرضنا وحقوقنا، نفضل أن نحصل على ذلك عن طريق الحل السلمي، فإن عجز العالم عن ذلك فنحن من حقنا الدفاع عن شعبنا ومن حقنا أن نقاوم الاحتلال".

ودعا مشعل الشعب الفلسطيني في جميع أماكن تواجده وجماهير الشعب الأمة العربية والإسلامية إلى الخروج في مسيرات احتجاجية والضغط على الحكّام للتحرك من أجل وقف العدوان الصهيوني على غزة والضفة، وأكد على أن موازين القوى ستنقلب لصالح المقاومة الفلسطينية في حال استمرار صمود على الأرض، وفي حال تحركت الجماهير العربية للضغط على حكوماتها من أجل التحرك لوقف العدوان وكسر الحصار، مشدداً على أن الشعب الفلسطيني في غزة والضفة مصر على الصمود ومتشبث بخيار المقاومة.

كما دعا مشعل الفصائل الفلسطينية إلى التوحد وإدارة المعركة، وأكد على أن جميع الفلسطينيين في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة هم مستهدفون، حتى أولئك الذي المقاومين من حركة "فتح" الذين سلّموا أسلحتهم بعد أن وعدتهم السلطة بأنها ستحميهم إذا سلموا سلاحهم، مشيراً في هذا الصدد إلى ما حصل مؤخراً مع مجموعة من كتائب شهداء الأقصى كانت سلمت أسلحتها للسلطة ومع ذلك لم تستثنهم قوات الاحتلال من عمليات القتل.

Six colonists wounded in the illegal entity

Six colonists were wounded in two separate resistance operations this Saturday as Palestinian heroes launched over 40 rockets at southern part of occupied Palestine on Saturday alone.

One colonist was moderately wounded and two lightly as a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit occupied Ashkelon in the afternoon. Several others at the scene were treated for shock.

Five occupation troops were also wounded during operations in the Gaza Strip during the day.

At least 12 rockets hit in or around occupied Ashkelon since early Saturday,One of the rockets hit a house, causing its residents to suffer from shock.
A third rocket hit a parked car, which subsequently burst into flames.

Hamas fired rockets towards occupied territories

Over 40 rockets were fired by Palestinian groups from the northern Gaza Strip towards the zionist entity on Wednesday afternoon. During one of the barrages a colonist was killed. Zionist medics also treated two more Israelis for minor wounds.

Earlier in the day a rocket hit a poultry factory in an industrial zone and a several hours later a rocket struck just outside a Carlsberg beer facility. Several rockets landed in the occupied Palestinian city of Ashkelon, with one rocket landing near the Barzilai hospital's helicopter pad. One man was wounded from a rocket that landed in a residential street in the occupied city.

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's rocket barrages.

Religious, diplomatic and political figures took part in the ceremony. The sons of martyred leaders Sheikh Ragheb Harb, Sayyed Abbas Moussawi and Resistance commander Imad Moghniyeh made separate speeches and pledged to follow the path of their fathers.

Sayyed Nasrallah thanked everyone who consoled Hezbollah recently after the assassination of Moghniyeh. "In my name, the name of martyr Moghniyeh, the name of Hezbollah's leadership and every sister and brother and Islamic resistance fighter, I thank everyone who solaced us particularly our great scholars, Christian religious figures, presidents, ministers and politicians. I especially thank his eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for their participation and support."

The Hezbollah chief said that the martyred leaders have become a symbol. "What martyrs and leader martyrs had in common was faith, sincerity, sentiments, jihad, love of people and unprecedented steadfastness."

His eminence stressed the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its south has not stopped. "Facing Israeli aggression has been ongoing since the fall of Palestine in 1948. Since that day Lebanon and its southern villages have suffered from this aggression even many of the Lebanese do not know this part of history or pretend not to know it however some Lebanese leaders intentionally ignore it," he said. "When we used to discuss the defensive strategy at parliament and when I had spoken about Israeli aggression on Lebanon since 1948 until the early 70's that is before Palestinian factions came to south Lebanon, some of the attendees protested and said that Israel had not done anything since then and that the problem of Israel with Lebanon began with the arrival of Palestinian factions. This is mere ignorance. I tell the shallow minds in Lebanon, who speak about war and peace decisions, that Israel is the only side that has been taking the decision of war or peace. The decision that we take is our legitimate, moral, humane and natural right in order to defend our people, land and country at a time of negligence by the government and the world."

His eminence continued: "If you want to extract this decision from Olmert, Barak and their masters in the US you have to be lions and heroes. This is a war that the Israelis have launched and today there is a new term: the open war. This is a war that has been open since 1948 when neither I, Sayyed Abbas, Hajj Radwan (Imad Moghniyeh) nor Sheikh Ragheb Harb were even born. The Israelis have opened this war on Palestine and our Arab and Islamic nation as well as Lebanon."

IMAM SADR'S CALLS FOR DEFENDING LEBANON WERE IGNORED
Sayyed Nasrallah remembered Imam Sayyed Mussa Sadr in the 60's and 70's when he used to protest Israeli aggression against Lebanese territories mainly in south Lebanon. He said that Imam Sadr used to hold the government responsible for security in the south and demanded the Lebanese army deploys there. "But the army at that time was an army for the regime and not an army for the country. So they did not listen to Imam Sadr. This went on until Imam Sadr himself called for buying arms, training and transforming every town and village in the south, Rashayya, Western Bekaa into a strong fort that is capable of defending itself. This is Imam Sadr." Sayyed Nasrallah added that "today some of the leaders in the ruling bloc, and will not say February 14 bloc anymore just to show respect to the memory of martyr Rafik Hariri, use Imam Sadr's words as an argument against us. I call on them to return to Imam Sadr's positions as long as you consider them Lebanese and not Iranian positions that come under the Wilayat al-Fakih as you claim. On behalf of every member of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, we accept every word Imam Sadr had spoken."

SHEIKH RAGHEB HARB'S MARTYRDOM GAVE RESISTANCE MOMENTUM
The most dangerous aggression against Lebanon was in 1982, said Sayyed Nasrallah. He added that the purpose was to change Lebanon's identity and its location in the Arab-Israeli conflict amid internal collusion, international support and Arab silence.

"This was the era of Sheikh Ragheb Harb, The era of stimulating people, breaking their fear, giving them hope and the strong sense of being able to liberate their land and launching the popular resistance using rocks and hot oil next to the armed resistance."

His eminence continued that Sheikh Ragheb refused to shake hands with the Israelis because this would be acknowledgement to them. His martyrdom gave the resistance very strong momentum. His martyrdom in 1985 and the popular and armed resistance that gained momentum forced the Israeli occupation out of Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Sidon, Tyre and Nabatiyeh to the Israeli security zone." A new phase started after 1985. It was when the popular resistance ended and the organized armed resistance began."

WE MADE VICTORY THANKS TO SAYYED ABBAS BLOOD
Sayyed Nasrallah said that after 1985, the popular resistance entered the phase of organized and concentrated armed resistance. "At that stage, our leader Sayyed Abbas Moussawi who was a leading Hezbollah member from Baalbek, chose to head for south Lebanon to manage operations. He used to supervise and take part in planning, be present in operation rooms, mourn martyrs, say farewell to Mujahideen and move from town to town, just like Sheikh Ragheb did. Resistance was his whole life and gave ultimate priority, especially when he became Secretary General. His martyrdom also came to mark another stage in the life of the resistance which again gained more momentum and grew bigger. From the 16th of February 1992 to the 25th of 2000, victory was accomplished. We made victory thanks to the blood of martyr Sayyed Abbas and martyr Sheikh Ragheb."

IMAD MOGHNIYEH'S BLOOD IS TITLE OF THIRD STAGE
Hezbollah's Secretary General said that third stage is titled "the stage of martyr Imad Moghniyeh's blood."
"The new phase focuses on developing the resistance on the operational level and opens new horizons. The escalation of operations has transformed, in the resistance's strategy, from a traditional guerrilla war into a new unprecedented fighting school; somewhere between guerrilla war and traditional armies' operations. The Islamic Resistance has become an institution where making programs, tactics and plans is not limited with an individual or a leader regardless of his stature. Hajj Radwan is the most prominent figure of this stage along with his brothers. Those who don't know Hajj Radwan, he was the mastermind of the first capturing operation after liberation and the complicated operation of (Elhanan) Tenenbaum which led to the release of many Lebanese and Palestinian detainees from Israeli jails. Since 2000, when all the people were celebrating liberation, Hajj Radwan was preparing to defend Lebanon against any possible war. We were the victors of the war (2206 war) because we have men, plans and readiness….In Israel there is a unanimous agreement that it lost the war. Using the word's of (Israel's first Prime Minister David) Ben-Gurion, that if Israel loses one war it will approach its end, one can understand that this is the situation. "Now the Israelis are threatening us with war. They threatened before Imad Moghniyeh's murder and after it. His murder is an unprecedented move." Sayyed Nasrallah said that Moghniyeh's killing was a clear sign that Israel was preparing a new war against Lebanon but said his troops stood ready for a new "victory". "We will kill you in the fields, we will kill you in the cities, we will fight you like you have never seen before," said Nasrallah, "Israel will be left without an army, and without an army Israel cannot exist." His eminence vowed to avenge the death of Hajj Radwan through the destruction of Israel, which he said was destined to disappear. "The disappearance of Israel is inevitable, it is Divine law." "The presence of Israel is but temporary and cannot go on in the region," Sayyed Nasrallah added. Sayyed Nasrallah thanked the Winograd commission for not holding Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert responsible for the failures in the 2006 war. "They lack political and military leaders. I have said that (Ariel) Sharon was the last Israeli king. All the others are nobody."

INVESTIGATIONS LEADING TO ISRAELI INVOLVEMENT
Investigations in Damascus are still ongoing, said Sayyed Nasrallah adding that it is a Syrian responsibility. "What has been said about a joint Syrian – Iranian probe panel is unfounded. We are cooperating with each other through available data. The Syrians are taking this investigation very seriously and so far everything points to one direction: Israel. There are some sides seeking to divert the probe to another direction. We certainly and firmly refuse this."

RESISTANCE STRATEGY REMAINS LIBERATING LAND AND DETAINEES
Sayyed Nasrallah stressed the strategy of the Islamic Resistance continues to be a strategy to liberate the land and the detainees in Israeli jails and to defend Lebanon against aggression. "Despite our pain, we still back internal dialogue that would lead to a certain defensive strategy through which the Lebanese government and the Lebanese people take the responsibility of defending the country."

ISRAEL IS PREPARING ANOTHER WAR
Sayyed Nasrallah said that martyr Moghniyeh has been killed in the framework of an open, preemptive and comprehensive war. Israel is preparing another war. "I regret to say that some parties in Lebanon have been reassuring each other that a new Israeli war will crush Hezbollah and the opposition. This is why they are not in a hurry to solve the crisis. Their American master refuses the (Arab) initiative and they do not comment. If Satterfield's comments were made by (Syrian FM Walid) Moallem or (Iranian FM Manuchaher) Muttaki, they (the ruling bloc) would have firmly reacted.

FEBRUARY 14 WANT TO DISAVOW EVERYTHING
Sayyed Nasrallah criticized February 14 leaders for saying that what's after February 14, 2008 is nothing like what was before that date. "They want to disavow everything that's been said and done during quartet meetings (between loyalty and opposition blocs under the auspices of AL chief Amr Mussa). This is because 1.5 million people allegedly went to the Martyrs Square under the rain. So they consider this a referendum." His eminence said that knowing who has the popular majority in this country can be done by calling for protests from both blocs and let a neutral side count the protesters on each side. "I respect the people who attended the February 14 commemoration, because I respect their political choices, but I do not respect the offenders."
"If they wanted settlement then there is no need for marathon visits across the world. Settlement can be reached in parliament through the representatives of the opposition and the loyalty blocs." His eminence accused the February 14 bloc of lending their ear to the Americans who are telling them "to hold on until Israel wipes out Hezbollah and the opposition and then Lebanon will be theirs."
"Wasn't the failed Israeli war in June 2006 aimed at crushing us and they learned their lesson from it? With pride I say that we are ready for the confrontation and we are ready for a new victory God willing. I swear by God that you will carry your tanks, officers and soldiers back with you and your army will tumble down at the feet of Imad Moghniyeh… No one can protect the entire Israeli home front from our missiles," he said. "If they think of entering the south, to any valley, any hill, I swear you (Israelis) will carry your tanks and soldiers and your entire army will collapse under the feet of Imad Moghniyeh," Sayyed Nasrallah said. "When I say that the Islamic Resistance's strategy is to defend Lebanon, this is one thing. But we also have the legitimate right to defend ourselves when we get killed especially outside the border. We cannot keep silent and we cannot let the enemy kill our leaders and loved ones. We are frequently asked: why don’t you go to the UN Security Council (to protest the murder of a Lebanese citizen by the Mossad outside Lebanon)? How can we resort to the UN Security Council when it cannot even condemn Israel for the broad day Qana massacre? Why because our blood is different? Our children are different? Our leaders are different? Then they told us to go to the International tribunal (to try suspects in the Hariri murder and related killings). What tribunal is this that Bush uses to threat nations. What tribunal is this that has its prosecutor residing in Meerab (the headquarters of Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea)? What tribunal is this that has its judge residing in Clemenceau (the headquarters of MP Walid Jumblatt)? How can we resort to the Lebanese political authorities which ignored the maker of liberation in 2000 and acted in collision against us? This is why we will defend ourselves in the method, place and time of our choice and with an independent national decision emanating from our will and courage. "I swear to you Hajj Imad, your blood will not go to waste," his eminence vowed.

The aftermath of Hizbullah’s certain response to the assassination of Mughniyah may lead to a regional war that would end the Zionist project, writes Dyab Abou Jahjah

The assassination of Imad Mughniyah may mark the beginning of a new era in the region: an era of total confrontation with no boundaries and no taboos. The reaction of Hizbullah to the assassination of its military chief of staff was never going to be mild, and the Israelis knew that. They knew that the response would be painful and still they went for it. Did they believe that denying responsibility would confuse the resistance and prevent it from retaliating? Surely not; rather, they want the possibility of considering any Hizbullah strike as an unprovoked act of aggression.

Hizbullah, however, is likely to respond using the same tactic; that is, hitting hard and not claiming responsibility. Indeed, any response to the assassination of Mughniyah can by no means be a classical response. The resistance cannot respond by launching missiles or firing on a tank. A proper response, from the perspective of the resistance, can only be to eliminate an Israeli personality of the same stature of Mughniyah. As Sayed Hassan Nasrallah pointed out in his latest speech, the rules of the game, which confined the Arab-Israeli confrontation to the spheres of Lebanese and occupied Palestinian territories, have been breached by the Israelis. In Nasrallah’s words, “If you want this kind of open war, then let it be an open war.”

Killing Mughniyah does not necessary mean that Israel wants “this kind of open war”, because the Zionists realise very well that Hizbullah has the logistical and organisational structure to hit them hard anywhere, and they are not overly keen on indulging in a bloody cycle of tit-for-tat assassinations. Hizbullah, for its part, is also not in favour of such a scenario, preferring to confine its activities to politics and classical resistance based on guerrilla tactics. However, when Israel killed Mughniyah in Syria it gave Hizbullah licence, as well as an imperative, to respond, at least once, outside of the usual frame of the conflict. That one hit is very likely to come in an Arab country, maybe a country that is known to support Mossad activities and even to lend the services of its own security apparatus to the Israelis regularly.

After its response is executed, Hizbullah expects Israel to go back to the traditional rules of the conflict. This means that any reaction or retaliation for the loss that Israel will suffer — and they as well as we know that this loss is coming — will be a declaration of classical war whether limited or open. If the Israelis chose to opt for another assassination outside of Lebanon’s borders, we could consider that we have entered a time of open war with the whole world as its theatre of operation.

The options for Israel are very limited. They might launch another attack on Lebanon, but that will lead them to another defeat. Hizbullah is more powerful now than in July 2006, and as Nasrallah said in his recent speech, tens of thousands of well- trained and highly motivated warriors await prospective invaders. We should recall, also, that Nasrallah, who is proven credible in his assessments and predictions, has declared on previous occasions that the coming battle will witness a dramatic surprise that “will change the course of the whole conflict”. This surprise could be double: on the one hand, the resistance may have acquired anti-aircraft missile systems capable of limiting Israel’s air superiority (some reports have suggested that Hizbullah has acquired Sam 18 missiles through Syria from a former Soviet republic), and on the other, that the resistance would not only defend Lebanon but also enter into Palestine, liberate territory and defend it successfully. This would force Israel to desperate measures and perhaps lead to total war in the region implicating not only Syria and Iran but also Egypt. And this would obviously change the course of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Far from speculation, the coming exchange of blows between the Lebanese resistance and Israel will undoubtedly be a crucial turning point, establishing a balance of terror that no party is willing to breach or opening the way to the final chapter of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The latter would be the beginning of the end of the Zionist colonial project in the Arab east, if we believe what Nasrallah says. Until now, one must admit that this man, unlike his Israeli counterparts, is not known for empty rhetoric.

Israeli Settlers Should Evacuate Sderot

"08/02/2008 The Popular Resistance Committees called on the Israeli settlers residents in the southern occupied territories to evacuate their families from the line of fire on Friday afternoon. In all at least 22 Qassam rockets have been launched towards the occupied territories from northern Gaza on Friday. Abu Mujihad, a spokesman for the Salah al-Din Brigades (the military wing of the PRC) claimed responsibility for the barrages and said the attacks were in retaliation for the killing of one of the organization's senior commanders, Abu al-Sa'ad.

A senior PRC official, Abu Abir, warned the attacks would only increase and urged the evacuation of Sderot and its neighboring communities. "What was up until now is nothing compared to what will be. We call on them (the Israelis) to evacuate for their safety and the safety of their children," he said.

Two of the rockets launched on Friday landed in Netiv Haasara and damaged several greenhouses. Another rocket landed in Ashkelon's industrial zone. The rest landed in open areas in the western Negev and north of Sderot. No injuries were reported in any of the attacks."

One Israeli settler was killed Monday and eleven others were wounded, three critically, in a martyrdom operation in a Dimona commercial center.

Al-Manar correspondent in occupied West Bank said the attack was twin martyrdom operation carried by two resistance fighters, but only one succeeded in detonating his explosives. The other fighter was killed by a police occupation officer from an elite unit who happened to be on the scene, seconds before he could explode himself.

The al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's military wing, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestinian's military wing, and the United Resistance Brigades have claimed responsibility for Monday's martyrdom operation.

Abu al-Walid, a senior al-Aqsa Brigades official, said in a phone conversation with al-Manar, "We succeeded to carry out the attack today and we take responsibility for it, along with the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades and the United Resistance Brigades, in response to the occupation and the killing of children and innocent people in the West Bank and the Strip."

According to the report, the first martyrdom bomber was a Fatah member, while the second one was sent by the other two organizations.

Hamas referred to the Dimona operation as "a heroic act", which constitutes "a natural response to the crimes of the occupation."

On the other hand, the Palestinian Authority led by president Mahmud Abbas condemned Dimona attack in the occupied territories and in a statement, the PA also condemned an Israeli military operation early Monday in the West Bank town of Qabatiya during which troops killed two resistance fighters from the Islamic Jihad group.

George Habash never saluted a Zionist, never "negotiated" under the Israeli flag, never traded kisses with his people's killers, never knelt before a king, and never stretched a hand in beggary.

With the passing of Dr. George Habash, the Arab people as a whole along with peoples of the world struggling for liberation have painfully lost one of the towering legends of decolonization.

Dr. Habash, popularly known as Al-Hakeem in dual reference to him being a medical doctor and the conscience of the Palestinian movement, is unmatched in Arab history.

He is the quintessential intersection of Palestinian democratic nationalism, pan-Arabism, progressive internationalism, and egalitarianism.

Yet, even such monumental attributes are but a small part of Al-Hakeem's legacy. It is his unparalleled principled character, humility, love for his comrades and people, and unblemished history that coin him as the archetypical revolutionary leader.

From the day he became a refugee in 1948, to founding the Arab Nationalist Movement and subsequently the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, to emerging as one of the most beloved Palestinian Arab revolutionaries in the seventies, to his final departure in Amman, Jordan, Abu Maysa's 83-year journey is that of Palestine itself.

While many barter for mere crumbs the entirety of their once-existing principles, George Habash gave up none - not an ounce. As purported "leaders" construct palaces through thievery from which to command their gangs of fear, he died just as he lived, in modesty, humility, and enormous dignity. This is a leader who set the highest example by voluntarily vacating his top political seat while at the peak of his popularity.

Al-Hakeem transcended all organizations, political parties, nation-states, and borders. He spoke loudly for the deprived, fought for the needy, and healed the wounds of the poor. He was Palestinian in heart, Arab in blood, and egalitarian in his principles. He leaves a legacy of internationalism situating the Palestinian struggle within an anti-imperialist struggle that transcends the borders of any one state.

Al-Hakeem shunned chauvinists and embraced democratic nationalist who valued unity and home-grown socialism. He rejected the blind mechanical importation of political theory, and argued that it must evolve from our particular Arab conditions. He understood the colonial nature of Zionism as an agent of imperial dominance while also recognizing that it is served by functionaries and servants from within the Arab rank. He was an ardent advocate of the inseparable duality between national liberation and social equality.

Unlike others, Al-Hakeem never saluted a Zionist, never "negotiated" under the Israeli flag, never traded kisses with his people's killers, never knelt before a king, and never stretched a hand in beggary. He remained true to his belief, never oscillating from one political camp to the next in search of a seat of power. He lived and died never distinguishing along religious lines. He was deeply entrenched in the cumulative totality of our Arab history from the Gulf to the Ocean. And while the wretched of our people searched for meager pieces of bread and drops of clean water throughout the Gaza Strip and the camps of exile, he did not reside in a palace, nor did he enjoy pay-offs of treason.

Ironically, the passing of this exemplary unifying pan-Arabist legend comes at a time when our people in Gaza are tearing down fences to join hands with the Egyptian Arab people across imposed colonial divides. How sad it is to loose George Habash at a time when true leadership is scarce and despots are many. How painful it is to loose such a visionary at a time when our people appear to be led by local agents of Empire. How devastating it is to loose an icon of integrity and pride, when Arab pride is trampled every day, particularly by its presumed custodians. And how untimely his loss is when the need to enhance the democratic pan-Arab nationalist alternative is an existential necessity in today's era of right wing ascendancy.

With the loss of this refugee from the town of Lid, we are all painfully so much less, yet due to his life and legacy we are all so much more.

How easy it is to pretend to be a revolutionary during times of luxury, and how almost impossible it is to live and die as one during impossible times. Such is painstakingly achieved only by the select few, of whom El Hakeem is undoubtedly unmatched.

A zionist police officer was killed and three colonists were injured Thursday evening in two simultaneous resistance attacks which took place in Al Quds.

Two zionist officers were shot at the northern entrance to the refugee camp of Shoafat. An officer was critically injured and later died of his wounds despite paramedics' attempts to resuscitate him, while a female officer sustained moderate to serious wounds and was evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Al Quds.

Fatah's military wing, the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack and said that the cell members behind it had the officer's weapon. A Fatah spokesman told Ynet that the organizations "Black September" activists carried out the attack.

A spokesman on behalf of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Fatah's military wing, said: " "This is our proof that we are no longer committed to the calm and that we do not intend to continue handing over our weapons, we are only committed to resistance against the Israeli occupation. The next attacks are already underway, we promised a response within a few days and this is the first operation in a series of operations."

تحية لأهل غزة، وللمقاومة في غزة، تحية للذين علموا كل الأمة كيف تكون الخطوات الوحدوية، وكيف يكون تجاوز الخطوط الحمراء التي فرضتها الأنظمة أو الطرف الأمريكي-الصهيوني!!

تحية للجماهير المصرية التي احتضنت غزة، ولعبت دوراً لا يقل أهمية في فتح "الحدود" معها، وأثبتت أن الضغط الشعبي العربي يمكن أن يثمر نتائج سياسية مفيدة وفعالة، بدون تقديم تنازلات مبدئية!

وإننا نود أن نؤكد أننا في لائحة القومي العربي نؤيد قيام الجماهير المصرية والفلسطينية، وقوى المقاومة الفلسطينية، بفك حصار غزة بالقوة، وهي الخطوة التي دعونا إليها في بياننا حول معبر رفح في 23/7/2007.

ويهمنا أن نؤكد هنا أن الحصار المضروب على شعبنا في قطاع غزة هو قرار سياسي دولي بتواطؤ عربي رسمي بامتياز، يحاصر إرادة المقاومة والتصدي التي هزمت المشروع الصهيوني وأجبرته على الاندحار صاغرا من غزة هاشم. وفي هذا الصدد، نؤكد أيضا أن سلطة أوسلو – رام الله متورطة - بل هي شريك أساسي - في إدامة هذا الحصار، لاسيما بعد زيارة جورج بوش الأخيرة لبلادنا التي أعطت الضوء الأخضر للعدو الصهيوني وعملائه المحليين بتشديد الخناق على خيار المقاومة وملاحقة المقاومين الأبطال. ولم يتورع رئيس سلطة أوسلو عن كشف نواياه لخدمة أسياده الأجانب والمحليين مصرحا لقناة الجزيرة " ... سنبقى ندين الصواريخ العبثية ومن يطلقها." هذه الصواريخ التي اعترف الكيان الصهيوني بدقتها وخطورة ما تمثله من توازن الرعب ونقل المعركة إلى داخل مستوطناته ومغتصباته.
هذا بالضبط ما يشكل جوهر الأزمة - الصراع ما بين نهجين متصادمين لا يلتقيان ولا يتعايشان على ارض واحدة: نهج المقاومة والتصدي على طريق تحرير المغتصب من أرضنا، ونهج الأنظمة الرسمية المهادنة والمساومة على حقوقنا ومستقبل أجيالنا بحجة "الواقعية السياسية" ومنحها مزيدا من التمسك الزمني بالقرار والمقار.

جماهير غزة تطالب بتحرك جماهيري عربي متواصل لفك الحصار وأسبابه ومعاقبة مسببيه ومحاكمتهم كمجرمي حرب، وقد شكلت نساؤه بادرة قل نظيرها بفتح معبر رفح مع مصر بالقوة وهدم الجدار المصطنع كي تشكل البوصلة لنا جميعا بأن شعبنا متمسك بخيار المقاومة والتصدي والتحرير.

إن نساء غزة هاشم تستصرخ أمتها لتخلق وسائلها النضالية الملائمة لدعم خيار المقاومة وتعزيزه، وأن لا تتوقف فقط عند وسائل الدعم الإنسانية رغم أهميتها القصوى، وتطالبها التحرك علناً حتى لو أدى ذلك للاشتباك مع أدوات الأنظمة من أجهزة قمعية من اجل التواصل مع المحاصرين هناك. وجماهيرنا تعي بالفطرة أن مجهود كسر الحصار يعني بالضرورة التصادم مع خط الأنظمة المهادنة والمستسلمة. إن صراعنا ذو طابع تحرري وطني قبل أن يكون إنسانياً من اجل البقاء فقط، ومهمة إدامته هي مهمة عربية وإسلامية بامتياز.

آن الأوان لقوى المقاومة أن تعلن قطاع غزة ارضاً عربية محررة وتعبئة القوى كافة على طريق الالتزام بخط المقاومة والتصدي والتحرير، واستنباط الأطر العملية لتعزيز هذا الخيار الذي بدون حسمه ستبقى قوى المساومة تتغنى بالمفاوضات وعبثيتها وهدر طاقاتنا الجمعية. إن جل ما تتطلع إليه جماهير الأمة هو تواصل وتعزيز خيار المقاومة في الساحات العربية الملتهبة في عراق الحضارات ولبنان المقاومة وفلسطين الجهاد. وهذا يتطلب أيضا جهدا شعبيا عربيا لاحتضانه ودعمه بكافة السبل والوسائل وتعميم تجربته على كافة الساحات العربية، على غرار تجربة شعبنا العربي في مصر، والأطر الجماهيرية التي بدأ يخلقها للانخراط في إيصال وسائل الدعم للجماهير المحاصرة. وتبقى مهمة هذه الأطر التحرك لقطع العلاقات القائمة والدافئة للأنظمة العربية مع الكيان الغاصب وطرد ممثليه وأعوانه من الأرض العربية.

Sayyed Nasrallah: We Have Remains of Israeli Soldiers

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah took part Saturday in the Ashura March in Beirut's southern suburb along with hundreds of thousands of Muslims marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah renewed his warning to Israel that if it launched a war against Lebanon, "then I promise you a war that will change the world and the face of this region." His eminence was speaking to hundreds of thousands of people marking Ashura in Beirut's southern suburb. The Hezbollah chief said that when the Israeli invasion of Lebanon happened in 1982, "we chose the path of Imam Hussein peace be upon him, and told the Zionists who entered Beirut after occupying south Lebanon and Mount Lebanon: You have entered the wrong land, at the wrong time and in the wrong place, because we are going to confront you with our slogan (Disgrace, how remote)." His eminence added that the resistance rose and had within it the notion of Karbala and the will of Jihad and martyrdom. "In Hussein's name we stormed into their posts, with his spirit our martyrs carried out martyrdom operations and with his blood, we prevailed over the most tyrannical power the region had ever known," Sayyed Nasrallah said.

He added that after 18 years of resistance, Israel was driven out of most of occupied territories in the year 2000, but that was not the last of it. "In the 2006 war, the whole world stood behind Israel to crush this resistance. The air force took part and the war of annihilation began. However, we did not let down our arms, we did not run, we did not surrender and we refused humiliation. We fought for 33 days without fear and then Almighty Allah granted us His victory. We had Imam Hussein in our hearts and minds at every stage of the war. Our slogan during that war was also (Disgrace, how remote)."

RESPOND TO BUSH BY DETRMINING REAL ENEMY

Sayyed Nasrallah called on Arab and Islamic leaders and organizations to respond to US President George W. Bush's recent visit to the region by adhering to sanctities. "In face of Bush's visit dictations and Satanic visions which he seeks to impose on the region, Arab and Islamic government, people and organizations are called to respond with adhering to the resistance and supporting it politically, financially, militarily and in every way they can," his eminence said. The Hezbollah chief added that Bush wants to convince Arabs that Iran is their enemy and that Israel is their friend. "We have to underscore the real identity of the enemy and we have to know our friend…Therefore, our Arab governments and people should refuse to be dragged into wars that can only lead to the destruction of our countries and the killing of our people," Sayyed Nasrallah warned.

GAZANS ARE FACING GENOCIDE

The Hezbollah Secretary General said that the Palestinian people, the Gazans in particular, are making ultimate sacrifices, "What do the Arab and Islamic worlds have to say about this," his eminence asked. "During the 2006 Israeli war, I told the Arabs and the Muslims that we don't want anything from you. But today, I demand that all Arab governments and people stand by the Palestinian people and the Gazans who are now facing genocide. Perhaps the simplest thing to do is to lift the siege. Otherwise, the Arabs would be accepting disgrace and abolishing their Arabic identity. The fate of those people should not be left to the tyrants," Sayyed Nasrallah said.

WE CANNOT KEEP SILENT ON ISRAELI VIOLATIONS

The Hezbollah chief warned that Israeli violations, other than air space violations, were close to becoming routine. He was referring to kidnapping Lebanese civilians and taking them into occupied territories. "I ask the Lebanese and the whole world: What would happen if some Lebanese citizens living near the border line kidnapped an Israeli farmer on the other side of the border? The UN Security Council would convene, the whole world would distribute condemnations and Israel would get a green light to launch war against Lebanon. I warn you (Israelis), and I am very serious, we feel that attacking civilians is a humiliation to our country and our people. This has to be faced and it will be faced."
Sayyed Nasrallah said that he does not believe that the Israeli have political and military leaderships as well as an army to launch another war against Lebanon. "But we must not leave anything for surprises. The Islamic Resistance is fully prepared and I would like to reiterate that if Israel launches a new war against Lebanon, we promise them a war that will change the face of our region," he warned.

ISRAELI ARMY LOST CREDIBILITY IN JEWISH STATE

Sayyed Nasrallah stressed his commitment to the issue of the detainees in Israeli jails. He said that the Israelis are procrastinating because they are weak and unable to offer normal humanitarian prices. "Your (Israeli community) army has been lying to you. Your army did leave the body parts of its soldiers behind in our villages and battlefields. I am not speaking about simple body parts. We have heads, hands, feet and even a nearly intact body. What did your army tell the family of these soldiers? The Israeli army denied it had left body parts behind but not for a long time, because they know that we don't lie," Sayyed Nasralah said.

All Hamas young men are at Al-Qassam Brigades' beck and call

KHAN YOUNIS, (PIC)-- Ahmed Al-Ruqub, the Hamas spokesman in the Khan Younis city, confirmed Tuesday that the young men of Palestine and Hamas are all at the Qassam Brigades' beck and call to retaliate to the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, adding that Hamas cadres are intent on following the footsteps of their leaders.

In a speech during the massive march organized by Hamas, Ruqub warned the PA leadership of the divine punishment that would be inflicted on them because of the destruction and havoc they have done to the Palestinian people and the loyalty they gave to the Israeli occupation.

For its part, the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, affirmed that there would cataclysmic retaliation to the Israeli crimes at the right time and place, adding that the counterattacks on Israeli settlement outposts adjacent to the Gaza Strip including the settlements of Sderot and Nahal Oz are only a message to the Israeli occupation that we have the options to respond.

In a press conference, Abu Obaida, the spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, underlined that the Brigades foils every day dozens of Israeli attempts to assassinate its fighters, pointing out that the IOF troops should not rejoice much if they succeeded in targeting some of the Qassam members because the armed wing's recruitment office does not stop working day and night to enlist dozens of new resistance fighters.

Abu Obaida stated that tens of Israeli military jeeps invaded Tuesday the eastern area of the Zaitun neighborhood in eastern Gaza and started to fire randomly a barrage of shells and missiles on the residential areas and agricultural lands there which resulted in the killing of many Palestinians including children and the injury of dozens others.

The spokesman affirmed that the Qassam Brigades retaliated to the Israeli aggression despite the fact that the area where the crime occurred was a dangerous security zone, but the the Qassam fighters were able to fire 45 mortar shells, five home made rockets and a number of RPGs on the invading IOF troops.

The spokesman added that the Qassam fighters managed in the east of Khan Younis to shoot dead a Zionist settler in addition to the firing of a large number of mortar shells against the Israeli military posts in the southern Gaza Strip.

4 colonists hurt in Sderot rocket barrage

At least four colonists were wounded in a rocket barrage on the southern town of Sderot Tuesday afternoon. At least 18 Qassams were fired at Sderot since the afternoon hours, with four rockets landing in town.

The rocket fire started at around 4:15 PM, with one Qassm hitting a poultry processing plant where Yakov Yakobov was killed in November 2006. Since Tuesday morning, a total of 26 Qassam rockets and 16 mortar shells were fired at western Negev communities.

One of the rockets hit a power line in Sderot, halting power supply to several areas in town. Electric Company workers were called to the place to repair the damage.

واكد الامين العام لحزب الله السيد حسن نصر الله وفي الليلة الاولى لاحياء المجلس العاشورائي ان الزيارة التي يقوم بها الرئيس الاميركي الى فلسطين المحتلة وفي الذكرى الستين لقيام دولة اسرائيل الغاصبة ما هي الا ليؤكد دعمه المطلق لهذا الكيان وليشير ان اميركا حاضرة لخوض حروب العالم كله من اجل اسرائيل.
السيد نصر الله اوضح ان هذه الدولة "اسرائيل" قامت على قاعدة السلب والاغتصاب والارهاب والقتل وسرقة أراضي وأموال ومقدّسات الآخرين وتشريدهم، وان احتلال الصهاينة لفلسطين هو سبب الحرب في هذه المنطقة وكل الحروب التي جاءت بعد ذلك نتائج لهذا الاحتلال.

الامين العام لحزب الله اشار الى ان الرئيس الاميركي يتحدث من موقع حضاري ليدعم كياناً عنصرياً وليس كياناً دينياً موضحاً ان ذلك يضع عرب المناطق المحتلة عام 48 في فلسطين المحتلة في دائرة الخطر والتهجير. وتابع سماحته قائلاً في هذا الاطار: "لو عدنا إلى قبل 60 عاماً هذه الدولة التي يحتفي بها بوش المدعي كذباً وزوراً أنه المدافع عن الديمقراطية فمن الذي بدأ القتال قبل 60 سنة؟".
السيد نصر الله قال في كلمته: "في كل يوم يقتل ويجرح عشرات الفلسطينيين أصحاب الأرض الشرعيون لكن في نظر بوش ليس من حق الفلسطينيين أن يدافعوا عن أنفسهم، اما إسرائيل من حقها أن تدافع عن نفسها ليس بالصاروخ والمدفع وإنما بالسلاح النووي أيضاً. من حق إسرائيل عندما تقدم المقاومة في لبنان على أسر جنديين أن تدمر بلداً بكامله وتجتاحه وتحرق أراضيه والعالم كله يعطيها هذا الحق. فلا عرب ولا مسلمون ولا مجتمع دولي يحرك ساكناً في مواجهة المجازر التي تحصل اليوم في فلسطين، هذه هي العدالة عدالة الطواغيت والمستكبرين والأقوياء".
السيد نصرالله اعتبر ان يوم زيارة الرئيس الاميركي لفلسطين المحتلة هو يوم أسود في تاريخ منطقتنا العربية وأمتنا العربية والاسلامية، مشيراً بالقول: "من المؤسف جداً أن يكون أول يوم في عامنا الهجري الجديد يوماً مخزياً ومعيباً لكل العرب والمسلمين عندما تطأ أقدام فرعون ونمرود هذا الزمان أرضنا المقدسة المحتلة ليعتز بالمحتلين ثم بعد ذلك يستقبله الزعماء العرب بالترحاب وكرم الضيافة العربية. يأتي بوش إلى المنطقة وهو يمارس أكبر عملية تضليل في التاريخ".
الامين العام لحزب الله اعتبر انه وعندما قامت شعوبنا بواجب الدفاع عن النفس في فلسطين ولبنان وسوريا والأردن ومصر قام العالم ليتهم هذه المقاومة بالوحشية والرجعية والارهاب ومعاداة السامية والتنكر لحقوق الانسان. واوضح ان بوش يريد أن يحمي العرب من إيران التي لم تعتد على العرب والتي مدّت منذ يوم انتصارها الأول يد الأخوة والمحبة والعون والصداقة لكل العرب ولكل المسلمين، وهي التي لم تعتد على أحد لكنه يقف في فلسطين المحتلة ليعلن دعمه المطلق وتأييده الأبدي لاسرائيل التي ترهبهم وتذلهم في كل يوم".
وتوجه السيد نصرالله الى بوش قائلاً: "يا فرعون هذا الزمان إن كنت تغار على سلام العرب ومصالحهم وأطفالهم و"ديمقراطيتهم" ومستقبلهم ومصيرهم يجب أن تخاف من ربيبتك وحبيبتك وصديقتك وحليفتك إسرائيل التي أتيت لتدعمها. بوش المزوّر المضلّل المزيّف لا يحمي العرب من القاتل الفعلي اليومي ويدّعي أنه يريد أن يحميهم من عدو يفترضه هو وأزلامه وأدواته في عالمنا العربي والاسلامي ويحاولون أن يقنعوا شعوبنا أنه العدو الحقيقي
السيد نصرالله: يبقى الأمل بشعوبنا العربية والاسلامية وشعوب منطقتنا وهذا الأمل أنا لا أخترعه فهناك وعي كبير وعارم في بلادنا الاسلامية".
سماحة الامين العام لحزب الله قال: "الشعوب لا تصدق لا خداع بوش ولا بهلوانياته ولا أكاذيبه وهي تعرف عدوها جيداً وتعرف صديقها وصديق صديقها وصديق عدوها وعدو صديقها وعدو عدوها وهذا الوعي يجب أن تعمل كل الحناجر والمنابر على تثبيته وترسيخه لأنه الحركة الأولى في النهضة أما الغافلون والجاهدون والنائمون الذين لا بصيرة عندهم لا يحركون ساكناً".
وتابع الامين العام لحزب الله قائلاً : "ان آيات الشكر التي سيقدمها بعض القادة العرب والنخب السياسية في عالمنا العربي لبوش لا يمكن أن تغير الحقيقة التي تقول أن ادارة بوش هي التي تفرض الأنظمة الاستبدادية وتدعم اسرائيل وتنهب خيراتنا ومواردنا الطبيعية وهي التي تفعل كل شر وسوء في بلادنا وكل آيات الشكر العربية لا يمكن أن تمس وعي شعوبنا. ان رهاننا أيضاً على إرادة الصمود لدى شعوبنا وفعل المقاومة الجدية التي أدخلت الأمة مرحلة الانتصار ونقلتها من مرحلة الهزيمة والذل والهوان واحتقار الذات، هذه المقاومة المستندة الى الايمان والثقة بشعبها وارادة الصمود والثبات وروح التضحية والعطاء والجود هذا هو مبعث الأمل إلى المستقبل، هذا هو مبعث الأمل الذي يجعلنا نتطلع إلى المستقبل الذي تحقق فيه شعوبنا حريتها الحقيقية وسيادتها الحقيقية. أنتم المنتصرون أنتم الفائزون أنتم الغالبون والخائب هو من يراهن على بوش والمستكبر. يجب أن نحمل هذه الروح وهذا المنطق وهذا الدليل وهذه الرؤية المتينة المتماسكة ولا نخاف لومة لائم ولا تهديد مهدّد ولا الارهاب الذي يُمارَس علينا في كل يوم نحن الذين جربنا ساحات الجهاد والمقاومة والشهادة فلم نر فيها إلا النصر والعز والغلبة.
وختم سماحة السيد نصرالله: بتجديد العهد والبيعة وقال: "نجدد عهدنا أن نبقى أمة العز والجهاد والحرية ونرفض الذل والخضوع ولذلك كان شعارنا في هذا العام في مواجهة كل التهاويل هيهات منا الذلة".

Iraq’s Islamic Army rejects links with 'Awakening'

The Islamic Army, the main Sunni insurgent group in Iraq, is adamant it will not make common cause with the Sunni militias tackling Al-Qaeda with US support, and will instead fight the Americans "to the end."

"The Islamic Army has nothing to do with the Awakening councils," Ibrahim al-Shimmari, official spokesman of the Islamic Army in Iraq, said in an email interview.

"No one can be a member of the Islamic Army and the Awakening at the same time. Our war is for self-defence and we are targeting those who attacked us."

The Islamic Army is branded a terrorist group by the US military and has been implicated in a number of high-profile kidnappings and gruesome beheadings since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

French academic Jean-Pierre Filiu, an expert on the insurgency, says there are signs of cross-membership between the Awakening and the Islamic Army.

"On the evidence, the Islamic Army has a foot in these militia," Filiu said. "And in any case, they do not fight them."

According to Shimmari, the so-called Sahwa or Awakening forces -- Sunni paramilitaries organised by the US military to fight Al-Qaeda -- have emerged due to the "misconduct" of Al-Qaeda.

Made up largely of former insurgents, the Awakening councils began their rise more than a year ago in the west of the country, where they put Al-Qaeda to flight.

They have since proliferated in Baghdad and to the north of the capital with American military support.

"The occupation forces seized the opportunity (the conflict between Al-Qaeda and Sunni insurgents) and supported the Awakening to help the troop 'surge' strategy of (US President George W.) Bush," said Shimmari.

Founded in February 2004, the Islamic Army (Al-Jaish Al-Islamy) has become Iraq's most powerful Sunni insurgent group.

Well-established in the west and mainly Sunni centre-north of the country, the movement represents the nationalist wing of the country's "resistance."

It is responsible for many attacks against US and Iraqi forces, and posts videos of its lethal exploits on the Internet almost daily.

Since 2006, its fighters have been battling with Al-Qaeda jihadists who have tried to rule over the Sunni insurgency in Iraq.

"Our fighters are often the target of Al-Qaeda attacks, forcing us to respond," said Shimmari. "We think that what has affected the resistance is the internal fighting that Al-Qaeda has waged against other factions.

"So we have changed our tactics, from focusing on a large number of operations to more selective, intelligence-based operations."

Shimmari bemoaned what he said was the absence of a legitimate political process in Iraq.

"All the political measures since the occupation, such as the elections and the referendum on the constitution (in October 2005), have been instituted in the interests of the occupier," he said.

The Islamic Army has no intention of joining the political process "under the occupation."

The formation in April 2007 of the "Reform and Jihad Front", which groups four Sunni insurgent groups including the Islamic Army, was "to activate the resistance and to unify our political vision."

The resistance, said Shimmari, is a "continuous and the natural response to the violence of the occupation forces."

"But we are against killing any innocent people. Our policy is not to target innocent people but to defend them," said the spokesman, adding that not all operations against civilians are carried out by Al-Qaeda.

"Shiite militias supported by Iran and death squads are still playing a large role in the violence," he said, adding however that violence across Iraq has dropped because "the US exerted pressure on Iran."

"We realise that our battle will not be a short one. We will resist the US forces as long as they are in Iraq, until the departure of the last American soldier from our country."

The US military in Iraq describes the Islamic Army as a "terrorist group".

"It conducts a brutally violent campaign against foreigners within Iraq, specifically anyone believed to be cooperating with the US-led coalition," the military says on its website.

"Injustice every day": An interview with Leila Khaled

One of the most legendary figures of the Palestinian struggle for national liberation, Leila Khaled was recently in the Palestinian refugee camps of northern Lebanon. Visiting for the first time since last summer's battle between the non-Palestinian Islamist group Fatah al-Islam and the Lebanese army, during which the Nahr al-Bared camp was destroyed, Khaled sat down with EI editor Matthew Cassel to discuss Annapolis, Nahr al-Bared, and how the Palestinian movement must move forward.

A refugee herself, Khaled was forced to flee Haifa as a young girl in 1948 and later became the first female member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1967 and remains a member in the PFLP Leadership Council. Khaled put herself and Palestine in the front pages of newspapers by hijacking two passenger airplanes in 1969 and 1970, under the PFLP motto "Going after the enemy everywhere."

Forty years later, Palestine is still not yet liberated and the situation of the refugees is as dire as ever. More than 30 civilian refugees were killed during last summer's camp battle, and thousands of refugees in Lebanon are wondering when they can return to their camp, let alone their homes and property in historic Palestine.

ELECTRONIC INTIFADA: Recently the US, Israel and the Palestinian Authority met in Annapolis, Maryland to try and advance the "peace process." However, the fate of Jerusalem, the occupation and the right of return for Palestinian refugees are no closer to being resolved. Do Palestinians, especially a refugee like yourself, believe that these types of negotiations will ever bring about a real solution to the conflict?

LEILA KHALED: What happened in Annapolis is a process only, a process that will [only] give the Israelis more time [to make] more settlements and at the same time normalize the relationship between Israel and the Arabs as a whole, not every country by itself, and to make a big distance between the Palestinian question and the Arabs.

By the way, the reference [point for a political settlement at] that conference [was] that [of] the United States ... and not the United Nations ... And while the meeting was going on the Israelis were making incursions into Gaza, [raiding] in the West Bank ... attacking and arresting people.

It's a game, and we know that very well and we are against negotiations with the Israelis because the balance of forces is not for us, neither on the Palestinian level or the Arab level or the international level. Negotiations could be efficient and of interest to us [only] when we are nearer to being on equal sides. In history negotiations were between the fighting parties when they became on the same level. But we are not on the same level. We are still under occupation, we are still refugees -- what [do] we [have] to negotiate?

They say it's a peace process but we don't see the peace, we see the process. It's just to make public relations, [nothing] more. That's why we are against it.

EI: Do you consider Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, a legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, especially the Palestinian refugees?

LK: Yes. He was elected by our people as the president of the [Palestinian] Authority. And in the executive committee and the legislative council he was elected as the chief of the PLO [the Palestinian Liberation Organization]. So he is legitimate. But let's think again, what is it to be legitimate? ... In the stage of national liberation to be legitimate [means] to fight our enemies.

EI: Now that Palestinians seem divided, especially with the recent fighting between Fatah and Hamas in Gaza, what do you see as the way forward for Palestinians to continue their struggle to bring about their rights?

LK: First of all, we [the PFLP] condemned the way that Hamas used [force] in solving the interior contradictions, because the main contradiction is with occupation, and that is not of the culture of the Palestinian struggle.

In all the revolutions in the world there were differences in ideas and differences in attitudes, but always people [resort] to national dialogue among factions [to solve them]. We [the PFLP] were against the Oslo agreements but still we are part of the PLO. What Hamas did is condemned by us and by others. So we are asking Hamas to retreat .. and come back to the larger revolution. ... On the other side, there are many problems in the Israeli society and in the government and in the Knesset, but they don't solve them with arms.

The [Palestinian] Authority has taken many measures against general liberties and these measures were expressed by decrees by the president ... To be democratic is to give more freedom to the people despite that they are under siege or being imprisoned in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. We don't accept that the PA goes to negotiations with the Israelis, meetings with the Israelis every two weeks according to what [US Secretary of State Condoleezza] Rice asks them [for the sake of] public relations, not solving any problem of our people, neither on the economical [level] or the security [level] or the political level ... Israel sees that only the whole issue is how to secure itself from us while we are the ones who are suffering from occupation.

[Secondly, we must] rebuild the PLO because the PLO has become marginalized. So we are also mobilizing our people so that the PLO is the sole representative and the legitimate representative of the Palestinians inside and outside Palestine. So really doing it will give us more strength that all factions can be part of it, including the Islamic groups.

Thirdly, on the international level, these meetings will reach nowhere -- but all the time we were calling for an international conference led by the United Nations based on [UN] resolutions beginning from 194 until now that give us our rights. This conference [should be about] how to implement the resolutions because resolution 194 was [issued] in 1948, now it's 59 years [on]. It's not [about] having more resolutions but how to implement the resolutions that were taken by the international community [through] the United Nations.

This is the only way. But all this is based on our resistance. Without resistance we cannot get it.

EI: And what kind of resistance are you referring to?

LK: All kinds of resistance, resistance means everything. Beginning with the word "no" and ending with holding arms. And in between there are many ways, [including] a political struggle, a popular struggle. They want us to accept them as they are: racist, discriminating, an apartheid regime in Israel. This is what we don't want. We cannot coexist with such people. But we can coexist with people like us. This is the way we are looking for. And when we speak about an independent state it's not the [just] end result of the historic conflict between us and the Israelis and the Zionists. It's a step forward to have a democratic state in Palestine for all of us. But the key or the solution is the return of the Palestinians -- without that this conflict will continue.

EI: What do you think is the best way for internationals to support and do solidarity work with Palestine?

LK: I think we have received many means of solidarity with us as a people under occupation and in the diaspoa ... When we are speaking it is an act of supporting the Palestinians because you are spreading our word whether it's by Internet or newspapers or all kinds of media, just to spread the story of the Palestinians that there was and still is injustice against them. Now there are other means that people can extend treatment like dealing with health, making workshops with children, women, supporting some projects for the betterment of the lives of Palestinians. These are all kinds of solidarity. Im not here to say what means because the progressive forces in the world [have] extended their support and their solidarity by their own means and it was effective and is still effective.

EI: How does the destruction of Nahr al-Bared fit into the history of the Palestinian struggle?

LK: The camps [reflect] the historic crime that is inflicted by the Zionists and the imperialists against the Palestinians. [Since] the beginning of the armed struggle for revolution the camps are the target ... because they are the witness of the Nakba. It's not by coincidence that we had massacres in Palestine in the camps, and Jenin is one of those massacres that happened by the Israelis.

The camps in Lebanon which also faced massacres, Tel al-Zater, in Nabatiyeh camp that were totally destroyed by the Israelis ... this is the ... plan to end up the camps because ... in 1948 when our homeland was occupied and we were driven out by force but the witnesses [remained]. So now it's time to end the only witness itself: the camp. But every time it takes a different scenario; sometimes it's by the Israelis sometimes it's by other hands, Arab hands.

EI: Like the Lebanese army this time?

LK: This time and before. The Lebanese army faced us in 1973 and sieged our camps and it was obvious at that time that the resistance was still at its peak so they couldn't [come] near our camps in Beirut. Now it's time according to the Arab situation which is divided [because] the Palestinian situation [is divided], the PLO is now divided and what happened in Gaza added to the division, so it's easy to [destroy] another camp. But this time by having the excuse of Fatah al-Islam.

EI: You just returned from your first visit to the refugee camps in northern Lebanon since the summer war. Is there anything you would like to talk about?

LK: This is not the first destruction of one of our camps. We have to be careful ... to rebuild this camp and by ourselves. Those who want to support us have to support us directly, not through governments ... We are not asking [the Lebanese or other governments] to come and build our camps. We build our camps, our people build [them].

And it's a real suffering for our people to find their houses like this, burnt and destroyed and so on. We have experience with that. But we are not used to it and we will never be used to it. My message to our people is that we can build more and we are patient enough, but this doesn't mean that it's an endless patience.

... This is a crime for all the world that look, because we are Palestinians our camps are destroyed in this savage way. Why [did the Lebanese army] burn the houses just to not let the people go back to their houses and to make it more difficult for them [to return]?

Shatila camp was destroyed too and now it's rebuilt, and it was built by our people ... First responsibility is the PLO and all other factions including us [the PFLP] and ... then the Palestinian community, the Arab community and then the international community are also called up to come and extend their help to our people. Because we are really [facing] injustice every day in our lives.

Questions for the meeting with the American journalist Mark Rothschild

As you know, the American political establishment is becoming more divided over the continued occupation of Iraq . One US Presidential candidate has even pledged to withdraw all US forces from Iraq, leaving behind no US forces and no US military bases.

In the event a complete US military withdrawal actually begins and a US pledge of “no military bases” is given, would the IAI consider facilitating an orderly withdrawal of US troops?

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful, Whom only we ask for help. First, I would like to say that I appreciate your anti-war efforts against the war launched on Iraq and the Islamic world; this war which our, as well as your sons tested its evils. Here we want to confirm that we are very keen to save blood but we will sacrifice it to defend our nation, our country, and our humanity.
Regarding your question, we called the American administration to make negotiations, in case that happens, this will be one of the issues we can discuss because we are keen to save the blood of both people.

2 Can you describe when the IAI first formed, and what relationship if any its members have to previously existing groups such as the Ba'ath party?

Months before the war, some of our army leaders felt that the chance of war to break out was high. They felt that the Iraqi army wouldn't last as a result of collapsing morale since the Gulf War in 1991, so they started preparing for the stage after invasion within an Islamic project. Some of our brothers were arrested and we lost some others before 9/4/2003. The declaration of the name of the IAI came late because our leaders hoped that all Jihadists would fight as one group, but after the announcement of some other groups we announced ourselves. We don’t have any relation with any organization linked to the Ba'ath party, even they are very little.

3 What are the long range political goals of IAI?

The IAI has a moderate Islamic ideology and its own political program which stresses our political goals. At the top of these goals is eliminating occupation of all kind and putting an end to its effects so that we can establish our fair, equity and rights of all Iraqi society and sects in one state.

4 Does the US media accurately portray the activities of the IAI? If not, how does the US media misrepresent the activities of the IAI?

Based on our observation of some American media channels (carried out by the Observation and Watching segment in IAI Central Media Committee), we realized that the American media is politicized and the main view towards Iraq in most of these channels depends on false conceptions. These false conceptions exist for many reasons, one of these reasons is that they are following the policy put out by the American administration for getting the news. It is called News Pool where about 3000 media men were permitted to work under their eyes in Kuwait and Qatar particularly, 500 reporters were planted on the military bases all over Iraq. Now they replaced News Pool policy with a new policy which works on controlling those media men and securing only those who will follow them. Some of these false conceptions are: dealing with all the Iraqi resistance groups as one organization and focusing on its mistakes -or what they are accused of- against the Iraqi people, describing the resistance operations as violence, linking them to some organizations which have their own agendas, linking us with Al Qaeda and Baathists, providing false numbers of the U.S army casualties, hiding the tragedy and collapsing morale of the American troops and cases of soldiers that escape and don't return to Iraq, cases of suicide and neurological and psychiatric diseases they are suffering from even after their return to the USA; the media depended on the reports of some politicians who told lies and deceived America to wage a war against a people it didn't know anything about, not its religion, the traditions or the customs. This is generally; regarding the IAI particularly, IAI suffered a lot from neglect and distortion of its activities. However in the last year, IAI could break this barrier itself and delivered its message to the American people using their language through two releases, the first one was Baghdad Sniper which shows the real tragedy of America sons lives in Iraq and how they die there. The second one was Lee's Life for Lies which was a message written by one soldier to his family in America, but he couldn’t deliver it so we did that instead of him. These two releases had a big effect in the American and western Media but unfortunately some news media tried to show doubt on them and we call the American people to watch them and understand the message we wanted to send.

5 Do you think that the American people misunderstand the aims of the Resistance? If so, what message would you like to give to the American people about the political goals of the Resistance?

Yes, the American people don't understand and are unaware of the goals of the Iraqi resistance otherwise why did they re-elect Bush to be a president again? We believe that he bears full responsibility for the huge crime against our nation and people. We are a people of an ancient and renewed civilization, we have the basics and the power for civilization. You have a civilization of power, but if we look at the history we will find that civilization of power may win its wars but won't defeat the nations which have power of civilization. People war is the hardest war because the politic systems may be defeated but the people will win even after long years of suffering and pain. Our goals are to throw the occupation forces out of our country, it is our right recognized by all the religions, laws and customs. We call the American people to resist whoever wants to invade their land but we warn them of attacking others. We call for peace not only for our country and our nation but for the whole of humanity. We want our country to be ruled by its honest and sincere sons according to a constitution we have written ourselves according to our rules and society's nature. We seek to build a homeland based on fairness, equality, respect for human rights, relations with neighboring countries, civilized interconnection and human coexistence. We will deal with everybody evenly with these values even with the USA, but without occupation, regency or arrogance.

6 What is your opinion of the US claim that some Resistance groups are seeking to divide Iraq along sectarian lines?

The sectarian division of Iraq was a result of the sectarian sharing of power which was imposed by the occupation since the forming of ruling councils passing by all the governments which were formed under its shadow, so the occupation takes the responsibility of the sectarian actions as well as the political forces that came with it. On the other hand, the Iraqi resistance groups are very keen to protect Iraq's identity and unity; all of them have Iraq in their names and confirmed that they will fight until they free Iraq entirely, from its north to its south. We will work to defeat the sectarian project whatever side calls for it.

7 Is the political goal of IAI a unified Iraq or a federal Iraq?

Our resistance is to liberate the whole of Iraq and to preserve Iraq's identity and unity. Unity of Iraq is a good thing not only for Iraq's sons but for the whole region and the Arabian Nation because there will be neither local nor global peace without a unified Iraq taking into account the privacy of some of its sects and guaranteed respect of this privacy.

8 If the political goal of IAI is to preserve a unified Iraq, can the political program of the IAI facilitate establishment of reconciliation between national groups – especially between Sunni and Shia?

Yes, our political program adopted these principles in practice, not only in words, and it has its own efforts to achieve that unity, so we find the IAI has great respect from all Iraq's sons, the internal relations section in our political bureua witnesses unique activity and support on this side especially from tribesmen, qualified people, the upper classes and students.

9 On what political basis can reconciliation between the Shia and Sunni communities go forward? Can such reconciliation result in a unified Iraq? If reconciliation were possible, then what would be the political preconditions for such reconciliation?

Putting any preconditions on this side will frustrate the project in its first steps because we consider them as insulting. We see that any political reference depends on the occupation or its achievement under occupation won't be able to manage this project because it is a part of the problem itself and not a part of the solution. The presence of external forces and their extensions in Iraq is also a part of the problem so we believe that the withdrawal of occupation forces is the most important factor for this project's success. We believe that Iraqis, in all their sects, are able to overtake the negative effects of the occupation in all its shapes and they will meet together and when they do that a lot of the obstacles will be eliminated one by one and they will achieve together the communal life which they lived before the occupation.

10 Is the Ba'ath party in its present form a unified political party, and does it play a significant part in the Resistance?

One of the most important reasons which gave the Ba'ath party this weight in the Iraqi scene is the wrong politics which the American occupation forces followed and because they put themselves and their decisions under the control of parties which have a lot of hate and a sense of revenge. As a result of that, more than a million Iraqis were killed and eight million displaced inside or outside Iraq, tens of thousands of qualified Iraqi people were killed or displaced, sectarian violence increased, diseases spread, the official circles and foundations broke down, so the people started longing for the previous government before the occupation in spite of its mistakes and crimes because those mistakes and crimes were not comparable with those done by the occupation and the sectarian government working under its eyes. The American administration, especially Bremer, changed the effect of the Ba'ath party on the Iraqi scene and started the concessions about uprooting the Ba'athist law and the pride of the American leaders and the government at their meetings with some Ba'athist leaders or some Ba'athist resistance groups. This is in general but regarding the presence of the Ba'athist resistance in the Iraqi resistance: their ratio is very small with no real effect on the resistance but most of that is only lies and false speech, the American military and administration will fall again in mistakes if they started negotiations with the Ba'athist as if they are the Iraqi resistance and if they don’t correct this they will gain more failures, losses and their political and military goals will flounder.

11 In what ways does the political program of the IAI differ from the political program of the Ba'ath party and other Resistance groups?

The program of the Islamic resistance groups including the IAI is far away from the political program of the Ba'ath party which we confirmed previously its presence and effect on the Iraqi scene is very weak. The project of all the Islamic resistance groups relies on achieving benefits for the nation and protecting the identity of it. We are very keen to achieve this principle which says by what Iraq will be ruled not by whom, the important thing is writing the constitution which Iraq will be ruled with as well as assuring that this will be done by good and honest people.

12 President Bush claims that the US is fighting “Al Qaeda in Iraq”. President Bush uses this claim to justify the continued occupation of Iraq, claiming that “Al Qaeda in Iraq” poses a terrorist threat to the United States. In your view, is “Al Qaeda in Iraq” a significant part of the Resistance?

This is one of the fallacies and illusions which Bush planted in mind of the American people. Yes, Al Qaeda is here in Iraq but its ratio is not that much, it took its place because of the kind of big destructive military operations which a lot of Iraqi resistance groups don’t agree with and refuse to do. One of the American military studies mentioned in one statistic of the military operations for some period of time, Al Qaeda made up only 5% of the operations targeting the American forces. Bush's description of Al Qaeda and that it is the only side which launches attacks is to deceive the public in America and the world that the Iraqi people and especially the tribesmen refuse supporting the resistance and fights with them because they fight Al Qaeda. This nothing more than illusion because fighting between tribesmen and Al Qaeda was a result of Al Qaeda's wrong actions and we want here to confirm that most of Iraqi tribesmen still support the Iraqi resistance groups which fight the occupation forces in all its shapes and colors.

13 What are the most important differences between the political program of the IAI and groups like “Al Qaeda in Iraq”?

We didn’t see any political program of Al Qaeda organization except their project to set an Islamic Dawla (country), we clarified our remarks and objections before about that project via the message sent by the leader of the IAI to Al Qaeda leaders in Iraq.

14 In your estimation, Is “Al Qaeda in Iraq” a genuine Iraqi Resistance group, a branch of Osama Bin Laden’s organization, or an Iraqi group generally sympathetic to Osama Bin Laden’s goals, but acting independently of Osama Bin Laden’s organization?

We gave our description about Al Qaeda before, if you want to know more you can ask Al Qaeda men themselves because we won’t talk on behalf of others or ask the American administration about them.

15 After the United States withdraws completely from Iraq a post-occupation government will probably take power in Baghdad. Will the IAI participate in a post-occupation government? If so what role would the IAI play in the post-occupation government?
16 In the view of the IAI, what form should the post-occupation Iraqi government have? Should Iraq have a parliamentary system? If not, what kind of political arrangement does the IAI advocate for the post-occupation government?

We find a strong relation between the two questions so the answer will be one: First of all, we want to clarify that the IAI presented an elementary conception about the nature of the government under the occupation and said in one interview with Al Forsan magazine: " it will be good if a professionals government (technocrat) is set to manage people's needs until the occupations withdrawal, but we think that it is very hard as the sectarian safawists and takfiris are still there in the government and in all of its foundations". About the possibility of establishing a government after the occupations withdrawal the IAI leader said:" It is well known that all the political colors are there in Iraq and this is not a new situation and dealing with it is also not a new thing, we studied this topic very well from all of its religious, political, historical and practical aspects. We deal with people according to Islamic rules of fairness and equality, supporting people rights, giving them their rights back, preserving their dignity, spreading virtue and punishing unjust people etc. The dealing with people will be with high Islamic and practical transparency; this is written in our political program. We see the Shura system which relies on Ahlu Al Hilli Walaqd (wise and qualified people) –containing scholars and politicians-is the most suitable constitutional system for ruling Iraq. My best regards to you and I would like that you deliver to the American people my call for working together to get rid of the evils in their country and ours.

The Dialectic of Unity and Liberation in the Arab World

Since the 1950s and 1960s arguments have raged in the Arab world over which should come first: unification or liberation? Must we unite the Arab Nation first in order to be able to achieve liberation? Or is liberation possible without unity, since the task of liberation is something so urgent that it cannot await Arab unity? Must we build our forces by and through a unified Arab state in the first place in order to be able to achieve the liberation of Palestine and other occupied Arab lands? Or are the two tasks simply separate from one another, efforts that can proceed side by side, with one not necessarily depending on the other?

The consensus regarding these questions is divided into two camps. One holds that unity must come before liberation, and the other believes in the priority of liberation over unity. Those who regarded liberation as coming before unity dove into political work within the individual Arab states. One obvious example of such an approach would be the dissolution of the Arab Nationalists’ Movement to form the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in 1967. Those, on the other hand, who regarded unity as the precondition for liberation included some Arab regimes and political parties of Arab nationalist orientation. They authorized themselves to grant concessions on the Arab-Zionist front on the grounds that building a unified Arab state is their first priority.

In reality, contemporary Arab history gives us one of the most important examples of liberation without unity or a nationalist agenda: That is, the liberation of southern Lebanon in 2000. One could also add to that the partial liberation of the Gaza Strip. In both situations, liberation resulted from organized activity of Arab people on the ground without the involvement of any Arab regimes. Both were carried out by local forces that were not related to any nationalist agendas, but had, rather, local agendas. Other examples, such as Iraq, Somalia, Lebanon and Palestine undoubtedly prove that the creation and continuation of a popular armed resistance struggle is possible without the presence of a unified state. In addition, local forces may produce an effective resistance, create arenas for doing battle, even liberate a given part of the land, and pose serious obstacles to the American-Zionist enemy’s progress. Precisely this has occurred in the way the Iraqi resistance has paralyzed the “”Greater Middle East” initiative in the region. In these instances, the local resistance takes on a nationalist coloring, adopts a nationalist role, and consequently earns substantial support from the rest of the nation.

But can the whole Zionist program it the region – which includes its military presence, political weight, and imperialist backing – be defeated by local popular organizing alone, without a nationalist program? Furthermore, can the Arab nation as a whole rid itself of dependency (indirect occupation) without an Arab nationalist program? For example, could the Arabian Gulf countries rid themselves of the American military presence without a unified state that would protect Arab national security in the Arabian Gulf region? Also, is it possible for us to liberate the provinces of Iskandarun, Al-Ahwaz, and the islands of Abu Mousa and Greater and Lesser Tanb in the Gulf without a unified Arab state?

The fact is that the liberation of southern Lebanon differs qualitatively from the following events: Palestine’s liberation from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea; the Arab nation’s liberation from direct and indirect imperial hegemony; and the liberation of Arab lands from neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, Iran, Turkey and Spain. Local energies and capabilities are capable of achieving local goals for the benefit of the Arab nation and objectively can play an Arab nationalist role, that is, in terms of what they accomplish rather than because of any conscious Arab nationalist program. But, there is a huge difference between such cases of local liberation on the one hand, and liberation of the Arab nation and its territory from direct and indirect occupation.

Complete liberation in this sense is impossible to achieve without one united state and local liberation without a unified state will always remain incomplete, leaving the resistance politically or militarily blockaded, as in Lebanon and Gaza.

By “unified state” we do not mean that the entire Arab homeland has to be united before the program of liberation can be achieved. People who insist on this are like some of the alleged official representatives of Arab nationalism, towing the line of Arab regimes, who demand the creation of an Arab common market first and try in practice to evade their practical responsibilities under such an Arab nationalist program – specifically the task of confronting the Zionist-American occupations militarily. The unified state will only arise in the course of the bloody struggle with the Zionist-American enemy and its local stooges.

Therefore, what is meant by a unified state is the nucleus of a united state, which is imbued with a militant program, such as the state of Salah Ad-Din Al-Ayyubi (Saladin), established in northern Iraq and parts of Syria, Jordan and Egypt during the Crusades. That state was able to clutch the Crusader entity in a pincer and crush it. The unifying state is therefore the nucleus of comprehensive unity, and it simultaneously constitutes a liberation program. It is only when the liberation program becomes an Arab national program that liberation becomes possible. And it is only when the program of unification becomes a militant program that unity becomes possible. It is in this way that the dialectical relationship between unity and liberation can be put in its proper framework true liberation required an Arab nationalist nucleus and program, and unity cannot arise without a fighting program of military and mass liberation.

Two occupation forces killed in al-Khalil(Hebron)

Two occupation soldiers on leave were killed on Friday in an apparent drive-by shooting south of Hebron. Cpl. Ahikam Amihai (20) and Sgt. David Ruben (21), both residents of the neighboring settlement of Kiryat Arba, were hiking through the Telem Creek area with an unnamed female companion when a group of four Palestinian resistance activists drove up towards them and opened fire.

Amihai and Ruben, who both served in elite commando units, were reportedly carrying their firearms with them and were able to return fire, killing one of the Mujahideen and wounding another.

The al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Foreign forces in Iraq are hoping that a much heralded drop in violence in Iraq will continue into the new year.

However, in exclusive images obtained by Al Jazeera, it seems fighters from the Islamic Front for Resistance in Iraq (Jami) are merely biding their time and training hard with an array of new weapons in order to drive foreign forces out as soon as possible.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid reports.

Deep in the groves north of Baghdad, a group of fighters are shown on camera participating in an afternoon workshop on the making and use of weapons.

It includes a step-by-step lesson on how to turn an old tank shell into a roadside bomb. It took only 20 minutes to put together a device powerful enough to blow up an armoured vehicle. Two will destroy a tank, the instructors say.

Countless videos of these devices' devastating effects are shown on military websites.

Roadside bombs are lethal devices that cause the bulk of US soldier casualties to this day.

Iraqi fighters' new weaponry

The Pentagon has upgraded military equipment in Iraq to counter this kind of attack, but the enemy has remained relentless, and is swiftly adapting to the changes on the field.

"We have experts who are in charge of researching and developing new methods continuously," one of the men says.

"We need to find new ways all the time, in case we run out of chemicals."

He also says the Americans are now using jamming devices, but their engineers have already managed to crack the code.

The fighters are part of Jami and describe themselves as a resistance group. They vow that all their firepower is directed at foreign soldiers only.

"One shot, one soldier killed is the rule," says the instructor, a former army officer.

The disbanding of the former Iraqi army and the controversial de-Baathification law were two monumental mistakes the US is still paying for.

Disgruntled former officers with no future prospects sowed the seeds of the resistance and offered up their knowledge of warfare to young recruits.

They say Iraq is the best market for any kind of weapon, including new Glock pistols which belong to the newly formed Iraqi security forces.

In another set of images, the instructor explains how an old rifle used by the British nearly a century ago was recently upgraded.

"0ur enemies won't take such a weapon seriously," he says, "but with the changes we made, it has become very effective for snipers - equal to the modern sniper guns."

Rocket launchers, now with aiming sights welded on top, are also regularly used to fire at military convoys.

Over the past four years, groups such as Jami have grown into organised war machines, with fighters divided in combat cells, snipers, anti-aircraft gunners, bomb makers and artillery experts.

One man displays a new weapon in the video.

"This has a range of 1.4km," he says. "It is best aimed at bases which are not heavily fortified and individuals because the rounds are small.

He instructs his students to fire the weapon at targets who are training or taking a break.

Long-haul battle

The recent announcement that Washington and the Iraqi government are drawing up plans for long-term US military bases is for many Iraqis proof of an open-ended occupation.

The fighters have every intention of continuing their operations and in an ever more sophisticated manner.

"Our researchers are developing remote-controlled explosive devices," one man says.

"Soon we will be able to wage a battle with as little as two fighters - we will minimise our losses."

Almost five years after the start of the war in Iraq, the US still has not acknowledged the existence of a fighting force hostile to the presence of foreign troops on Iraqi soil.

And despite a decrease in US casualties over the past two months, the fighters warn they are in this battle for the long haul.

Hezbollah mystique undiminished

As political turmoil continues in Lebanon, observers say Hezbollah, the Shia movement, is re-arming and pursuing fresh recruits for its armed wing. Hezbollah has not denied this.

The movement was launched in 1982 in response to Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon. Backed by Iran and supported for much of its history by Syria, its fighters carried out a series of suicide attacks against Israeli soldiers.

By the late 1990s, Hezbollah had developed into a political party and was funding schools, hospitals and social programmes for Lebanon's often impoverished Shia population.

While the movement adapted to Lebanon's political sphere, its armed wing, the Islamic Resistance, continued to attack Israeli forces occupying southern Lebanon until they pulled out on May 25, 2000.
Last year, Hezbollah fighters captured two Israeli soldiers and killed several more in a cross-border raid.

In retaliation, Israel bombarded Lebanon for 34 days in an attempt to destroy Hezbollah.

However, in the aftermath of the war, Hezbollah now enjoys increased popularity, with more fighters signing up.

One such recruit spoke to Al Jazeera on condition of anonymity.

Mohammed, a 22-year-old architecture student, joined after the war. He was following in the footsteps of his brother and father, both resistance fighters.

Q: How did you get involved with Hezbollah?

First, when I was in university, I started to work with them [Hezbollah], participating in events and celebrations. Then it evolved to this point.

We, as Muslims, when we see oppression, we can't accept it. That's why I decided to get involved ... I am not married and I am young. It is fairer for someone like me to be martyred. This is why I joined Hezbollah.

Q: What is Hezbollah for you?

The resistance, Hezbollah, is like the mother and the father.

We in the south [of Lebanon] were raised on the border of occupied Palestine. Only the resistance took care of us and defended us ... I can tell you that Hezbollah is everything a person from the south dreams of when they dream of being defended.

We had a big problem in the south, we were forgotten by the government. Israel could attack us at anytime, but now Hezbollah is defending the people.

Q: How much did the war of July 2006 affect you?

What happened last July affected me deeply. People's steadfastness, the steadfastness of the men who had no idea what their fate would be ... they were fighting so that my people can return to their homes.

These guys were 23, 24, 25 - in the prime of their lives with a big future ahead of them ... They always knew that they had a bigger duty - the duty to defend their country.

Their sacrifices, the things we were seeing on TV - innocent women and children dying. They [Israel] said they were targeting fighters but they weren't only targeting fighters.

I got to a point where I refused to sit on the sidelines.

These fighters, maybe their mothers or sisters or family members were killed and they were reacting to that loss. It is my duty as a citizen to defend my mother and my family.

Q: If you want to defend your land, why don't you join the Lebanese army?

The Lebanese army doesn't have weapons. It is not allowed to carry weapons because there is an international arrangement not to properly arm it.*

The Lebanese army has a mandate to protect this country, but the Americans and the Israelis are trying to change this mandate.

Q: If the Lebanese military was properly armed, would you join the army?

If the Lebanese army had weapons there would not have been a resistance because the army would be protecting Lebanon. The resistance was born because people were trying to defend their villages.

I work with the resistance because there is no proper army, but if there was an army then I would think of joining it.

If the army had weapons then everyone would go back to their lines and the resistance would have to rethink its defence strategy. This is what [Hassan] Nasrallah [the Hezbollah secretary-general] said. He said once we have a government then come back and talk to us.

Q: If the idea is to defend Lebanon and advance it, why don't you put your efforts into rebuilding Lebanon?

Rebuilding my country is an honour as well. I work and I study. I fulfil these duties just as I fulfil my military duties.

There are two sides to the struggle - the military jihad and the other [social] jihad. Those who God gave the ability to participate in both should do so.

I will continue my life as normal and once my duty calls me I will go.

Q: If one day all occupied lands are liberated, what will your personal struggle become?

I would want to raise a family and send my children to university. There are many jihads in life, and the biggest jihad is the jihad of the Self.

For a person to be able to carry out the military jihad - to bear the pressure of knowing that he is going and he may never come back - his jihad of self is key.

His religion and his spirituality get him closer to God and away from earthly temptations. This will get him to a point where he can carry out his military jihad.

Our akeedah [belief in our cause], as I told you, is a fundamental thing. The akeedah is what allowed a single fighter in a village to fight 30, 40, 50 Israeli soldiers. Why? Because he won't go back, he won't give up. He would rather be martyred than humiliated. This is in the blood of the martyrs and this is why we have all these victories.

Q: How do you remember your life as a child growing up

I used to live in Tyre, like all the children in the south we used to hear Israeli jet fighters all the time, and we used to get scared.

Once, when I was 11, we were playing football and a bomb fell very close to me. I remember I stayed up all night crying. When I was 10 they bombed a Palestinian refugee camp near us and we didn't sleep nights on end.

We were forced to grow up before our time.

When you live in fear, it affects everything - your life, your studies. We were able to come and go freely but we were constantly scared.

I have been living in Beirut for 13 years ... Beirut was safer, but you could still hear Israeli planes overhead, although it was nothing like the south.

In the south, Israeli warplanes used to show up anytime and do whatever they wanted ... their soldiers kidnapped farmers and killed people.

Lebanon, as a whole, is under threat from Israel ... Farmers can't access their land, people can't go to their homes because of cluster bombs.

The threat is there and it will remain there as long as Israel is our neighbour.

Q: How do your parents feel about you and your brother being Hezbollah fighters?

It is normal for every mother to worry about her sons, but my mother knows this is our duty and we can't run away from it.

She cries, she is sad, she misses us, she wishes our circumstances were different and we weren't forced to go through this, that we don't have any wars, but duty comes first.

She is convinced that whatever God wants, will happen. If I get martyred, she will only cry over my absence and because she will be separated from me.

Parents look after their children, and Hezbollah looks after the people of Lebanon.

Colonist moderately injured by Qassam rocket

A zionist woman was moderately injured on Thursday afternoon from a Qassam rocket that struck a house in Sderot.

Her injuries were inflicted primarily as a result of the force of the rocket's impact.

The Mujahideen Brigades, a military wing of Fatah, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The rocket stuck a house that did not have a safe room. It crashed through the roof and caused extensive damage to the house.

في ظل الحديث الإسرائيلي عن خطط عسكرية مرتقبة لاستهداف قطاع غزة، ما استعدادات المقاومة الفلسطينية لذلك؟

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، بالتأكيد المقاومة الفلسطينية تستعد منذ فترة طويلة، ونحن في كتائب القسام منذ بداية الاجتياحات الصهيونية في هذه الانتفاضة انتفاضة الأقصى ونحن نستعد لمواجهة أي عدوان صهيوني على قطاع غزة.

ونعتبر التصدي للعدوان هو جزء أساسي من عملنا في مواجهة الاحتلال ومقاومته، ومن جانبنا نعد العدة وكل ما لدينا من وسائل سنستخدمها في صد أي عدوان على قطاع غزة، ولدينا في كتائب القسام خطة دفاعية لمواجهة أي عدوان، وهذه الخطة هي خطة مدروسة ومحكمة بحيث يتم التصدي للعدوان في أي جزء من قطاع غزة.

والوسائل التي لدينا هي وسائل ليست كما يدعي الاحتلال الصهيوني، أنها وسائل متطورة وتكنولوجيا حديثة، وجيوش منظمة وغير ذلك، هذا كله من أجل تبرير العدوان على أهلنا وعلى أبناء شعبنا المدنيين في قطاع غزة، لكن الوسائل التي بحوزتنا ستكون مؤلمة للعدو، والمواجهة ستكون شديدة جداً وغير مسبوقة في حال أقدم العدو على عدوان في قطاع غزة.

فيما يتعلق بالخطة التي ذكرتها، هل هي مقتصرة على كتائب القسام أم أن فصائل المقاومة الأخرى ستشارك فيها؟

نحن أعددنا خطة منفردة لمواجهة الاحتلال في قطاع غزة، لكن جزءا من هذه الخطة هو التنسيق مع الأجنحة العسكرية الأخرى في حال حدوث عدوان، بحيث يكون العمل منسقا في مواجهة الاحتلال حتى لا يكون هناك أخطاء ميدانية، وحتى نخرج من أي مواجهة مع الاحتلال بأقل الخسائر الممكنة.

نحن معنيون بذلك كثيرا بشكل جماعي وأن تكون جميع الفصائل في بوتقة واحدة وفي خندق واحد في مواجهة الاحتلال في حال حدوث أي عدوان، لأن العدوان لا يفرق بين حماس والجهاد الإسلامي وكتائب الأقصى وألوية الناصر، كلنا مستهدفون من الاحتلال وبالتالي علينا أن نواجه الاحتلال بيد واحدة، ونحن بالفعل نسعى إلى أن تكون مواجهة موحدة منسقة على الأقل بشكل كبير في حال حدوث أي عدوان.

في هذا الإطار أيضا، كثر الحديث في الآونة الأخيرة عن الدعوات لتشكيل غرفة عمليات موحدة بين الفصائل المقاومة لمواجهة العدوان الإسرائيلي والتصدي له، هل فعلا تم تشكيل مثل هذه الغرفة؟

حقيقة الفصائل جميعها متفقة على ضرورة تشكيل غرفة عمليات مشتركة، وليس هناك أحد يعترض على مثل هذه الغرفة، لكن هناك فرق بين تشكيل غرفة عمليات مشتركة بحيث يكون العمل موحدا وبين أن تكون هناك عمليات منسقة، حيث يتم التنسيق في ضرب الأهداف الصهيونية، بين كل فصيل وآخر على حدة.

نحن سعينا منذ فترة طويلة أن ننشئ غرفة عمليات مشتركة ونجحنا في بعض الأحيان، لكن طبيعة التركيبة التنظيمية للفصائل الفلسطينية أحيانا تجعل هناك عراقيل في وجه تشكيل غرفة عمليات مشتركة، خاصة النواحي الأمنية حيث هناك تعدد المرجعيات عبر المجموعات العسكرية، وهذه المرجعيات غير واضحة، جميعها هي مرجعيات وطنية ولكنها متقلبة وغير واضحة، وهذا يؤدي إلى خلل وثغرات أمنية ربما يدفع ثمنها الجميع.

لذلك نحن متفقون على تشكيل غرفة عمليات مشتركة، لكن الإجراءات التي ذكرتها تحول دون الوصول إلى عمليات مشتركة موحدة في جميع أنحاء قطاع غزة، لكن نأمل أن يكون هناك قريبا تنسيق واسع من أجل الوصول إلى هذه الغرفة، ونحن سابقا لا يخفى أننا نجحنا في تشكيل غرفة عمليات مشتركة أنتجت عمليات نوعية ضد الاحتلال. ونحن نأمل لتعود أن تلتئم هذه الغرفة.

يتعرض قطاع غزة لعمليات حربية إسرائيلية جوية وبرية وبحرية يوميا تقريبا، في رأيك ضمن أي الأهداف تندرج هذه العمليات، خاصة أنها خلفت العشرات من الشهداء في صفوف المقاومة مؤخرا؟

حقيقة قطاع غزة يعيش منذ فترة طويلة حصارا صهيونيا من جانب وعدوانا عسكريا صهيونيا خاصة من الجو وعمليات واعتداءات برية متكررة مثل توغلات في مناطق مختلفة من قطاع غزة، والشعب الفلسطيني يدفع ثمن الأخطاء التي يرتكبها بعض الزعماء العرب، عندما يذهبون إلى أنابوليس مثلا ويجلسون مع الاحتلال ويظهر الاحتلال بمظهر المحب للسلام أمام العالم، ثم يأتي هنا من أجل أن يواصل جرائمه ضد شعبنا الفلسطيني.

وكذلك يهدف إلى تدريب جيشه وجنوده لعمليات أوسع في قطاع غزة، هذه هي الأهداف المعلنة للاحتلال، أما الأهداف الإستراتجية فهي واضحة جدا أن الاحتلال مشروعه قائم على إراقة الدم الفلسطيني، والتلاعب في الدم الفلسطيني حتى في حسابات سياسية داخلية.

سيد أبو عبيدة، كان واضحا في الآونة الأخيرة تكرار استهداف الاحتلال المقاومين على الحدود الشرقية والشمالية لقطاع غزة، هل هناك من تدابير وبدائل اتخذتموها للحيلولة دون تكرار ذلك؟

بالتأكيد الاحتلال في الفترة الأخيرة، خاصة بعد مؤتمر أنابوليس، كنا نتوقع عدوانا صهيونيا وبالفعل هذا العدوان حدث وتصاعد، وهو الآن مستمر، واستهدف بشكل أساسي المرابطين، حيث كانت هناك نقاط للمرابطين تكرر الذهاب إليها، وتكرر مرابطة المجاهدين في مناطق معينة فقام الاحتلال باستهدافهم بصواريخ المدفعية وصواريخ الأرض أرض.

نحن بالفعل لدينا بدائل لإقدام العدو الصهيوني على استهداف المرابطين، هذه البدائل سنستخدمها بإذن الله تعالى، وهناك عدة تكتيكات مطروحة ونحن نتعلم من تجربتنا مع الاحتلال الكثير، فالاحتلال إن نجح في الوصول إلى المرابطين والمجاهدين في هذه المرة، فسنفشله بإذن الله تعالى في المرات القادمة، وهذه معركة مستمرة بيننا وبين الاحتلال كل الاحتمالات فيها مفتوحة.

هناك من يرى أن الضربات العسكرية الجوية التي طالت رجال المقاومة، شلت حركة المقاومة وقللت من هامش المناورة لديها؟ خاصة أنه في العملية العسكرية الإسرائيلية الأخيرة جنوب شرق خانيونس وصلت القوات الإسرائيلية إلى عمق كبير جدا في تلك المنطقة.

لا أعتقد ذلك أبدا، نحن في كل مرحلة أثبتنا بفضل الله تعالى أن لدينا بدائل ولدينا خيارات لا يتوقعها العدو، خاصة أن كثيرا من العمليات التي نفذتها المقاومة في أماكن لا يتوقعها العدو كان يعتبرها مناطق ساقطة له وحدثت فيها مقاومة وعمليات.

فمثلا عملية الوهم المتبدد التي جرت فيها عملية اسر الجندي جلعاد شاليط كانت في منطقة لم يتوقع العدو يوما أن يصل إليها أي مقاوم فلسطيني، منطقة عقدة عسكرية أمنية لا يستطيع احد الدخول إليها لأنها منطقة عسكرية مغلقة، وجميع الآليات العسكرية متواجدة فيها واستطعنا الوصول إليها وأسر جندي والانسحاب منها في عملية معقدة لم نكشف تفاصيلها حتى هذه اللحظة.

فالاحتلال يمكن أن ينجح نجاحات مرحلية وآنية في استهداف المجاهدين وإضعاف المقاومة في منطقة معينة لكنه على البعيد أو المتوسط لا يستطيع أن يفشل المقاومة.

وفيما يتعلق بالعملية العسكرية الأخيرة، فهناك بعض المناطق في جنوب قطاع غزة التي يتكرر فيها التوغل، خاصة المنطقة الشرقية من خانيونس ومحيط معبر صوفا شمال شرق مدينة رفح، ومنطقة الفخاري جنوب شرق مدينة خانيونس، كل هذه المناطق مفتوحة أمنيا وعسكريا هي غير صالحة للمواجهة والمقاومة أبدا، خاصة أن الاحتلال يدخلها بدبابات محصنة جدا وتحت غطاء كثيف من الطائرات والقصف.

وكلنا شاهد كيف طال القصف حتى الصحفيين في تلك المنطقة ورغم ذلك اعترف الاحتلال بأنه تفاجأ بمقاومة شرسة وعنيفة ولم يتوقعها في المنطقة، واستطاعت المقاومة مواجهته وأوقعت إصابات في صفوفه، لكن الاحتلال يخشى من عملية توغل كبيرة لأنه جرب هذا الخيار كثيرا خاصة في العام 2004 عندما حاول اجتياح مخيم جباليا وبقي 17 يوما ولم يستطع أن يدخل إلى المخيم الصغير، فالاحتلال يدرك أن الدخول بعمق إلى داخل قطاع غزة سوف يدفع من خلاله ثمنا باهظا، وبالتالي هو يهرب إلى المناطق الخالية من أجل استدراج المجاهدين وقصفهم من الجو، وهذا لا يشكل نجاحا عسكريا للاحتلال، على العكس هذا يشكل قمة الفشل واللجوء إلى سلاح الطيران يعبر عن مدى ورطة الاحتلال في قطاع غزة، وأنه لا يستطيع الدخول بقوات راجلة.

هل يمكنك إطلاعنا على بعض السيناريوهات الميدانية المتاحة للمقاومة لصد أي عملية عسكرية على القطاع؟

بالتأكيد نحن نرى ذلك، في ظل هذا التراجع العربي، والصمت الدولي يمكن للاحتلال أن يفعل ما يشاء في قطاع غزة، خاصة فيما يتعلق بموضوع القصف الجوي البري والبحري كذلك، فالاحتلال يقتل عشرات الفلسطينيين في قطاع غزة بعد مؤتمر أنابوليس، ولم نعد نسمع الشجب والاستنكار من الدول العربية والعالم.

لذلك الاحتلال يتمتع الآن بغطاء مريح بعد هذا المؤتمر، ونتوقع أن يكون هناك عدوان أوسع لأنه في كل عدوان يعتمد على عدد القتلى الفلسطينيين، يقتل عددا من الفلسطينيين ثم ينسحب ولم يعد يبالي بالدم الفلسطيني، وكل الاعتداءات الصهيونية المتكررة هي مقدمة لعدوان كبير على قطاع غزة، ونحن نستعد لأسوأ الاحتمالات

Critique of the Arab Left: On Palestine and Arab Unity

The situation of the Arab Left is similar to "the phenomenon of the transformation of the Left" on the global scale and a reflection of it. The reason is simple: the Arab Left, as a general rule though with some exceptions, was never a "Left" in the dialectical materialist sense. It has always been a reserved, conservative entity, "reactionary" rather than proactive, "importing" theory rather than producing it, adhering to the "letter of the text" (mainly the text of the Soviet policy!) rather than being an innovative critical thinker.

Below I attempt to dissect the main weaknesses of the Arab Left, as well as the obstacles it faced, and discuss whether there really was an Arab Left at all. This is of special importance since, coming from a Marxist position itself, criticism will help in evolving a revolutionary Left again in the Arab region and the world.

Under the British and French occupation, the division of al-Mashreq al-Arabi (the Arab East, divided by colonialists into the states we know today as Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, and Iraq) took place for many objective reasons:

(a) "Divide and Rule," a doctrine that is a well-known mechanism for depriving people of the power to change and diverting their political energy into internal channels (channels within the manufactured benign system), thus facilitating the job of the occupier and tremendously impeding any effort towards unifying the Arab masses -- the only mechanism that can lead to the defeat of imperialism. Also through this doctrine, colonialist occupation will have a "new function" to undertake as it transforms its image and presumable function from an oppressor to a buffer between internal divisions, a trick that makes the occupation a "necessity."

(b) Pave the way for the implantation of an imperialist base, a functional entity that can serve imperialism and comprise a material barrier between the Eastern and Western wings of the Arab space. Let us not forget that the greatest attempts for an Arab liberation project started by uniting the Eastern and Western sides of the Arab homeland -- Syria and Egypt. That was the case with Saladin, who united Damascus and Egypt in 1174, paving the way for ending the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1187. It was also the case with Mohammed Ali Pasha (1769-1848), known for his industrialization and modernization plan to establish a strong state in the Arab region. He united Egypt and Syria and was forced to eliminate his project by the British and Austrian naval attacks. And then Nasser (1918-1970), in his attempt to set up a truly independent sovereign Arab state, also succeeded in unifying Egypt and Syria as a backbone for an Arab unity, but for many reasons, the unity lasted only for less than three years, from 1958 to1961.

(c) Keep these manufactured "states" under continuous subordination to imperialism, since it is impossible to achieve liberation on the level of the manufactured state (lack of resources to establish independent development and lack of political and popular depth to support a liberation project are among other objective reasons for its impossibility).

The climax of the colonialist drive for division and maintenance of the state of subordination was the establishment and legitimization of the Zionist entity (Israel): a racist colonial-settler entity organically and functionally attached to the imperialist powers.

There is no objective reason whatsoever that might convince a leftist to acknowledge and accept the establishment of such an entity; on the contrary, the logic of Marxist theory and its developments concretely leads to conclusions against such an acknowledgement. There is an exception, of course, and that is the case of a Left that is completely mechanical and under the influence of a center that acts more like a superpower than a revolutionary center.

The Soviet Union accepted the U.N.-sponsored Partition Plan of 1947, thus accepting the material manifestation of the Zionist/imperialist project in the Arab region. Subsequently, almost all Arab Communist Parties accepted what the Soviets agreed to without any critical objection! Moreover, there are reports that the Syrian Communist Party, (the most mature of the Arab Communist Parties at the time), having printed its paper with headlines in objection to the proposed Partition Plan, had to throw all that batch in the garbage and print another edition with a reverse position after the Soviet agreement to the plan!

From that point on, Arab Communist Parties had to become a sort of "devil's advocate," defending the existence of "Israel," and fabricating/promoting all sorts of theories about a "unity of the Arab and Jewish working class" in Palestine. That was and remains a theoretical joke that demanded the unity of the oppressed and occupied with their colonial-settler occupiers and oppressors under the banner of "working-class unity" against imperialism!!

Palestinian Communists formed "united" parties composed of Arabs and colonialist-settler Zionists, self-proclaimed Communists, while other Arab Communists maintained a close relationship and sought to coordinate with this Zionist "Left" and still do today.

On March 2006, the Jordanian Communist Party held a coordination meeting with the Israeli Communist Party in Amman, an example of many that may have taken place unbeknownst to others over the years. Yet that meeting, not so strangely, was even a subject of boast in the JCP's official newspaper! While it is strange enough to be a "Communist" and an "Israeli" at the same time, the two parties obviously had no political conflict, since both of them promote the notion that the occupation of Arab land (1948-occupied land) and the establishing of a functional racist colonial-settler entity on that land is just and acceptable, provided the Zionists give back part of the land (occupied later in 1967) for the Palestinians to establish a fragmented totally subordinate "state," the so-called "two-state solution," an unjust proposal for ending the Arab-Zionist struggle that is used for maintaining the status quo through a never-ending "peace process" and pushing the entire world to accept injustice (Israel) as a normal legitimate state of affairs. Both the JCP and the ICP agree on this solution as their strategy, a coincidence that links them up with the mainstream political agenda globally. Even the U.S. and "Israeli" governments seem to be hooked on the "two-state solution," a strange agreement with "Communist" strategy!

It is ironic that, although Arab Communists were keen on coordinating and forming unified fronts with "Israeli Communists," a similar effort was not undertaken towards Iranian and Turkish Communists, despite the fact that, unlike "Israelis," the people of Iran and Turkey are the historic neighbors of Arabs, and they are an integral ally, and an integral part of an anti-imperialist anti-Zionist struggle.

Some of the Arab Communists were pioneers in crafting terms like "political sensibility" and "understanding the balance of powers." Such terms have become part of the theoretical arsenal for parties and regimes alike who no longer wanted to "liberate Palestine" but rather to follow whatever the Israel/USA couple would put forward, an endeavor that has led us to the pathetic result we see today in Palestine.

The Communists, under the influence of the Soviets, were also the first to accept U.N. Security Council Resolution 242 that further establishes "Israel" as a legitimate state, ordering Arabs to forget about their land occupied before 1967 and terming only Arab land occupied after 1967 as "occupied territories" (under the UN banner, there was no occupation before 1967 -- history does not exist before that year).

The Soviet Union tried to push everybody to accept resolution 242. Mjalli Nasrawin, head of the International Relations Department of the Ba'ath Party and member of its National Leadership Board during the 1960s, reports that, in November 1969, the Soviet ambassador in Syria, Nuradin Mukhitdinov, demanded that the party (ruling Syria at that time) accept Resolution 242. Nasrawin recalls that weeks later the party received a letter signed by the Soviet leadership troika Brezhnev, Podgorny, and Kosygin, stating that the Soviets consider the decision not to accept Resolution 242 on Palestine a threat to global peace and that, if the current Ba'th party leadership did not accept this resolution, the Soviets would cease all support for them.

The Ba'th Party leadership did not have to wait long to experience the Soviet cessation of support. In of the 10th Extraordinary National Party Conference in late 1970, Hafez el-Asssad (then the Minister of Defense and leading a pro-242 faction in the Ba'th Party) was voted out of office. Nasrawin recalls that al-Assad immediately left the conference and staged a military coup. Within hours, the Soviet Ambassador met with party leader Salah Jdeid and informed him that, if he accepted Resolution 242, the Soviets would back the leadership of the party; otherwise the Soviets would not intervene. Jdeid refused, and within hours Hafez al-Assad declared "the corrective movement," his epithet for his military coup against the leadership of his own Ba'th party. Party leaders were all arrested and ended up serving 20-years-plus in jail. Mjalli Nasrawin was released after serving 23 years in prison. Other leaders were not so lucky. Salah Jdeid and Noor ed-Din Atasi left prison for their graves.

It is worth mentioning that the ousted Ba'th Party leadership in 1970 was the democratic progressive leftist element, refusing to eliminate al-Asad and his faction militarily, despite previous knowledge of his intentions, and promoting the necessity of a Marxist theory and practice to become the strategy of the party, as opposed to romantic socialism/nationalism promoted by other factions.

If these were the Soviet demands and pressures on the Ba'th Party, one can imagine their demands and pressures on the Arab Communist Parties regarding the issue of Palestine, the central issue of Arab liberation.

The Arab Communist Parties are not the only ones to blame for their lack of vision and analysis. Self-proclaimed Marxist organizations had also moved away in their strategy from liberation to "two states." Those are the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). The DFLP was a pioneer in proposing "stages" in the struggle for liberation. This paved the way for strategic concessions being portrayed as "necessary stages" in the struggle. The PFLP, having a much more progressive position, and being at the forefront of military resistance at one time in the history of struggle, took some time before it also withdrew into the rhetoric of "stages" and "two states," now their official political line.

It is clearly seen now (with some exceptions) that the organized Arab Left -- Communist Parties, the PFLP, and the DFLP -- have all succumbed to "political rationality" and detached themselves from an uncompromising objective theory and struggle, paving the way for the rise of Islamist organizations that still insist on "liberation" and "refusal to acknowledge the legitimacy of the Zionist entity" and practice armed resistance at the same time.

Another major mistake of the Arab Communists was their lack of clarity on the issue of Arab unity. Being a peculiar case in history, Arabs moved directly from the stage of a 600-year-long Ottoman oppression before WWI to the stage of colonialist occupation and division following WWI. It is elementary that fragmentation is a tool of subordination: this is true of the working class (thus the call for unity of the workers), and it is also true of fragmented people who have yet to acquire their national existence, for whom a classical capitalist social structure with its relevant class structure is far from being an objective reality. It is only simple sense that a call for the divided Arab toilers to unite in the struggle against Zionism and imperialism, and against the subordinate client Arab regimes that safeguard this division, breaking the colonialist-drawn division lines, should have been a priority for the Arab Left.

While Arab Communists, driven by a metaphysical Arab-Zionist "workers' unity" plan, were far away from the main struggle, making no actual effort on the issue of Arab unity as a main propeller for a successful confrontation, pan-Arabist organizations started to evolve into Marxism, proving objectively that Arab unity must have a class nature, must adopt Socialism to accomplish liberation, and must be an anti-chauvinist, all- encompassing secular effort for all the oppressed people in the Arab region. In this sense, the influential Arab Nationalists Movement of the 1950s gave life to the Marxist PFLP, and the Ba'th Party evolved a progressive leftist leadership in Syria ousted by the 1970 right-wing military coup.

The Arab Communists' position on Palestine and Arab unity, a product of mechanical subordination to the Soviet center and lack of critical theory and analysis, is solid proof that a "Left" was never born in the classical Communist Parties. In fact, those parties hindered and sometimes fought against critical thinkers who came from within the establishment.

This long history has prepared the road to NGO transition for many Communists and Communist Parties in the Arab region, following the "liberal wave" on the global Left after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the elimination of the Soviet Union, the political godfather of the Arab Communist Parties. (Of course, exceptions, like the Lebanese Communist Party, still exist, but the argument concerns general phenomena.) Furthermore, following this line of history will also temper the sense of astonishment that might arise from seeing the collaboration of the Iraqi Communist Party with the U.S. occupiers, and their integration within the occupation-dominated political process, while being backed by other Arab Communist Parties like the Jordanian CP.

It is only logical that the Arab Left is a very weak entity at the moment, divided between two main camps:

1. A classical Communist camp that continues along the political line of its predecessor, with "liberal" additions: promoting a "two-state" solution in Palestine, having a deep faith in imperialist-imposed "democratic processes" such as the one in post-occupation Iraq, joining the agendas of NGOs and accepting their funding, and fighting for its own political existence rather than a political program and ideology. This line is deeply rooted in historical organization (of Communist Parties and similar structures);

2. A critical neo-Marxist camp that, although present and active, is unorganized and divided, mainly because it is comprised of individuals who left the classical official structures without finding an alternative or building one.

Although I don't like the term personally, and prefer the term "Unity Left," the critical neo-Marxist camp is often referred to as "Nationalist Left," opposed to the liberal "Democratic Left" (a malformed equivalent of Europe's Social Democrats) or the classical "Communist Left."

This new critical Left has clear views on

(a) Palestine -- the core of the Arab liberation struggle and not a mere Palestinian-Israeli conflict, an uncompromised struggle for existence between the Arab liberation project and the Zionist/imperialist project, cannot be resolved by "political processes" and cannot be resolved by maintaining a Zionist entity on any part of Arab land;

(b) Iraq -- not recognizing U.S. occupation and any political process that follows from it);

(c) Resistance -- unconditional support to all forms of resistance, including armed resistance;

(d) Unity of the Arab struggle -- the impossibility of liberation on the level of the weak, subordinate colonially-manufactured current Arab state.

(e) Necessity of forming anti-Imperialist fronts based on clear political strategies with forces that share this approach though not particularly leftist (like Islamists, nationalists, etc.).

Through a polarization between those two camps -- an effort that should extend globally on the basis of political clarity -- a new radical, militant, clear and revolutionary Left can be born, and again become a key player in the liberation process, in the Arab region, and the world.

Setting Priorities Straight in the Struggle: On Iran and the Iranian Role in the Arab Region

Before we deal with the topic of the Iranian role in the Arab region, it is useful to recall the complexity of Iran and its different entanglements:

For one, Iran is not a "Banana Republic," and its regime is not a puppet or a client regime of Imperialism. Iran has a regional project and works seriously to accomplish it. It holds many important political cards and uses them cleverly in the context of realizing its project. Some of these cards are Iran's nuclear program, its close relationship with the Syrian regime, its close relationship with Hezbollah in Lebanon, its close relationship with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine, its close commercial and economic ties with influential states like Russia and Germany, its close relationships with the "North Coalition" in Afghanistan, its oil reserves, and (most importantly) its role in Iraq, i.e. its strong connections with and influence on the militias and parties that cooperate with the US occupation.

For another, the project of Iran is not an anti-Imperialist project. In other words, Iran is not the Venezuela of the so-called "Middle East" (with all our reservations about the term "Middle East"). It does not promote a popular liberation project for the people of the region that is based on ending hegemony and exploitation and realizing the sovereignty of the people over their land and resources. Iran's is a pragmatic nationalist/sectarian project with expansionist aspirations. It occupies Arab land (Ahwaz, Tunb Islands). It saw no problem in seeking the assistance of its "enemy number one" during its war with Iraq (the Iran-Contra affair). It also sees no problem in helping the same "enemy" (the USA) on the logistic and intelligence levels during the US aggression against Afghanistan. And, finally, Iran is playing a very destructive role in Iraq through empowering and supporting the sectarian militias and parties in Iraq who are also the backbone of the US-dominated political process.

Iran seems to have contradictory patterns of behavior if one looks at them from a progressive point of view, but they fall into place if one sees them in the Iranian context: Iran backs the US invasion of Afghanistan and is a key factor in fragmenting and destroying Iraq; while the same Iran backs anti-Zionist and anti-US resistances in Lebanon (Hezbollah) and Palestine (Hamas and Jihad).

With all these complexities, what should the progressive position on Iran be on the Arab and regional levels?

First, we must acknowledge the complete absence of a progressive Arab project in the Arab region on the official level of regimes or on the level of people's organizations (parties, unions, movements, etc.).

The Arab regimes are completely subordinate to Imperialism; they are incapable of influencing anything diplomatically or militarily. The recent attack on Lebanon is a key event through which to comprehend this fact: not only did Arab regimes stand idly by watching the destruction of Lebanon, but some of them went so far as to support Israel in its effort to eliminate Hezbollah. Also, during the attack on Lebanon, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Musa, announced "the death of the Peace Process" with "Israel." This "Peace Process" is the main strategy (past, present and future) of the Arab regimes. Its failure on the Arab level reflects its success on the Zionist level. To put it more clearly, the Arab regimes were and are working according to a Zionist agenda, as is demonstrated by comments by the top pan-Arab official.

On the popular level, there are three salient clusters of problems:

1. The resistances (Iraqi, Lebanese, and Palestinian) face many challenges:

They are not integrated into or bonded to a comprehensive Arab liberation program.
They do not coordinate with each other.
Unfortunately, some of them do not consider others a resistance in the first place (mainly the Iraqi and Lebanese resistances).
The Iraqi resistance failed to utilize the US/Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Hezbollah's resistance to counter the spread of sectarianism in Iraq.
Hezbollah is still reluctant to openly support the Iraqi resistance and finalize a position on the Iraqi factions that joined the occupation-sponsored political process.
The Palestinian resistance insisted on isolating the Palestinian question ("Palestinizing" the struggle), failing to relocate the struggle for Palestine back into its proper Arab context, when it decided to go on its own with its bargaining over the imprisoned soldier in Gaza following Hezbollah's proposal to collectively negotiate for the three imprisoned Zionist soldiers (two in Lebanon plus the Gaza prisoner).
Imperialism has partially succeeded in diverting the main effort of the resistances from confronting the external enemy towards secondary internal conflicts (Palestine: Hamas goes into the government and fights with Fatah over authority; Lebanon: Hezbollah engages in an internal political fight over the government; and Iraq: the US tries to portray resistance as "just another sectarian militia").
2. The official, organized Arab opposition (political parties, professional associations, and so on) is preoccupied with struggling for political existence rather that struggling for political programs and ideology. And there is a huge difference between the two.

3. The Arab masses are "politically correct" in their understanding and political position, but, because of the lack of organization, an enormous problem, they do not have influence on the ground.

In the Arab region, there are three main powers (USA/"Israel," Iran, and Turkey) and two projects (US/Zionist and Iranian). The Arabs are the terrain on which these powers pursuing their respective projects fight. In the game of history, those who have projects can take advantage of events. Makers of events who lack a project cannot make the most of their own actions. This means that, in the absence of an Arab liberation project, any event will be exploited by either the US/Zionist project or the Iranian one.

Does this mean that we have to choose sides: either Iran or the USA?

Definitely not. Our analysis should always differentiate between the main contradiction and the secondary ones. The main contradiction is always with the bigger, more powerful, and globally dominant Imperialism: It is the USA and its subsidiary "Israel."

The main enemy of all anti-Imperialists, and of the Arab liberation project, is US Imperialism and Zionism. Any other contradictions are secondary. Therefore, those who say that "Iran is more dangerous than the USA" or "Iran is more dangerous than Israel" are not only not objective, but their analysis serves US Imperialist interests in the following respects:

Prioritizing the battle with Iran that has a sectarian and fragmenting character, over the battle with the USA and "Israel" that has a unifying and liberatory class character.
The probability of transforming the USA and "Israel" into provisional allies or "powers-that-can-be-comprehended" in confronting the "Iranian danger." Some Iraqi factions have already started talking in this direction, while the Saudi and Jordanian regimes promote such an understanding.
Fragmenting the Arab resistances in Iraq, Palestine, and Lebanon, one from another, and putting them in confrontation, rather than being together in one trench.
Diverting the Arab masses away from the paramount US/Zionist danger towards low-priority targets for the Arab liberation project.
Does this mean we should ally with Iran in the face of the USA?

Here we should differentiate between two levels:

The popular level: here lies a necessity of establishing a front that includes all the peoples of the region (Arabs, Kurds, Turks, Iranians) to confront US Imperialism and Zionism, both exploiting and harming all those peoples.

The official level: here we can see from the examples above that the Iranian regime is not anti-Imperialist, it has its own project for regional hegemony and works for that interest, not for the interest of the people. Therefore, it is impossible to seek an alliance at that level.

Needless to say, US-imposed sanctions and/or a military strike against or invasion of Iran will principally harm the people (the stark example of Iraq since 1990 is still a scar in the face of humanity). Neither sanctions nor military force against Iran can be an American solution of the Iraqi sectarian dilemma, which Washington created in the first place and is the first to benefit from it! Therefore, the objective position would be to stand against the threats to Iran and support it in the face of any attempted or actual aggression.

The way out: steps towards fulfilling an Arab liberation project in the Arab region.

Remaining in a condition of continuing reaction is very dangerous. Resistance without a strategic project will keep us and our cause alive but leave us treading water and rotating in our place forever, in a world transforming at massive speed. A world where Imperialism will continue to make a huge effort to strengthen its interests at the expense of people, with no regard except for profit. What we need is to evolve a people's project to confront the US/Zionist project. In this way, we can stay alive and move forward. What are some ideas that can serve this aim?

Building the horizontal unity of the Arab popular struggle, as a lever to achieve a qualitative vertical progress.
Rearranging political alliances locally, regionally, and internationally on the basis of polarization, not points of agreement.
Re-introducing socialism and secularism as the optimum option for confronting Imperialism and achieving progress.
Expanding popular struggle from the Arab region to include all the people of the region.
Forming an alliance with rising anti-Imperialist regimes in South America.
The task for European and US anti-Imperialists: unconditional support for the resistances in the Arab region, breaking the official taboo on such support, establishing a radical front against Imperialism.
Conclusion

Imperialism today is in crisis, but it is not defeated, and it is not destined to be defeated without the direct action of anti-Imperialists.

If we lose this historic opportunity by

turning our back on the resistances in the Arab region and pretending they are not our problem, or the resistances do not represent us simply because they are Islamic or Ba'thist, or
by directing our efforts away from the main enemy, or
by contributing to the stabilization of the sectarian project by adopting its mechanisms, or
if the resistances, instead of fighting their common enemy, start fighting each other, or
if we are deceived into transforming the main battle with Imperialism and Zionism into internal trivial political fights,
then we will rescue Imperialism from its crisis, and will be obliged to wait for another 100 years or more, until Imperialism enters a crisis of similar proportions.

Zionist killed in West Bank resistance attack

Ido Zoldan, 29, of Shavei Shomron shot Monday night near Arab village by West Bank settlement of Kedumim, dies of his wounds short while later.

The resistance fighters opened fire at the Israeli from a passing car at around 11:30 pm. Zionist paramedics who were called to the site attempted to revive the man, but pronounced him dead a short while later.

Shortly after the attack, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Fatah's military wing, announced that it was assuming responsibility for event. A spokesman for the organization said that the resistance attack was "an act of protest against the Annapolis conference and a response to Israeli crimes".

The unity of all who believe in the rights of the Arab Nation, in the single destiny, and the struggle will crush the plot to partition Iraq and re-partition the Arab homeland.

Support for the cause of one united Arab Nation is the only way to resist fragmentation.

The Arab Nationalist list condemns in the strongest possible terms the resolution passed by the US Senate on 26 September 2007 providing for the partition of Iraq, a resolution whose framers claimed was “non binding” only because the US Senate officially has no legal jurisdiction over Iraq. The resolution, nevertheless, is a reflection of the practical actions that have been underway on the ground since the occupation in 2003 aimed at the partition of Iraq and of the areas surrounding it, for Iraq is not suspended in a vacuum.

This resolution also reflects the agreement of all the main circles in the American ruling elite for the continuation of the American plan for global hegemony, and at the same time for the Zionist plan to split up the Arab Nation, a plan that has been expressly laid out in Zionist documents and studies since the 1950s.

It is therefore not only the great country of Iraq that is targeted by these plans for partition and fragmentation. Yet as we commit ourselves to taking a stand against this fragmentation together with all the honorable members of our nation, we call particularly on all Iraqis, from the north to the south and the east to the west of the country, to be aware of these plans for the break up and subjugation of Iraq, plans aimed at pulling it out of the Arab national struggle, at stripping and plundering it of its resources, and at neutralizing and rendering impotent its resistance struggle.

We call on all Iraqi, Arab, and international forces and personalities to take one united stand against this plan, to frustrate the enemy’s attempts, and to preserve Iraq as one united, strong, and unassailable unit.

As to those who collaborate with the occupation and its plans, the noble Kurdish people will, after liberation, reckon with the criminal Peshmergah forces and their Kurdish stooge leaders who have silenced the voices of truth in the precious northern region of Iraq and have murdered hundreds of Kurdish patriots who reject the occupation and its crimes. The same fate awaits those who belong to the so-called Mahdi Army and the Badr Forces. Our people in southern Iraq who displayed heroism and zeal in defense of the country since the 1920 Revolution against British colonialism will take care of those criminals after the liberation and even before it, compelling them to flee from Iraq to Iran once again – but this time for ever! Here it is necessary to mention the Iranian regime, whose responsibility for pursuing plans to partition Iraq is equal to that of the American-Zionist side, which is now coming to understand that it too will be paying Iran the price for the partition of Iraq.

The patriotic forces that today forcefully reject partition will take their stand against it tomorrow and the day after and will never allow anyone to implement it under any pretext or excuse.

It is now becoming clear to everyone that the Arab Nation faces a new Sykes-Picot project for the re-partition of the already partitioned and fragmented Nation – the “New Middle East” plan that was laid out by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during the Zionist aggression against Lebanon in the summer of 2006. Therefore what is taking place in Iraq cannot be separated from the plan to partition the Sudan or from the American-Zionist escalation against Syria. This reality demands that we focus equally emphatically on the unity and Arab character of Iraq, on defense of the unity and Arab character of the Sudan, Syria, and the entire Arab homeland. This reality demands furthermore that, beyond the direct and immediate opposition to those hostile plans, we must confront them fundamentally on an Arab national basis, and must lay down a program of Arab national tasks that does not overlook the unique character of each region and its own the special situation.

Defeating the plan to fragment Iraq demands among other things:

First. The immediate unification of all the Iraqi resistance groups without exception. The situation where there is insufficient unity of the Iraqi resistance groups, where only certain blocs have come together based on ideological affinity or sectarian common ground, represents a serious inadequacy. Instead of fostering unity, this situation leaves the enemy opportunities to split up the resistance. We strongly warn here against sectarian and tribal divisions, against the rampant charges of betrayal of the faith that arise between heroic Iraqi resistance groups – a situation that threatens to allow the enemy to drive wedges between the forces resisting the occupation. All the forces of the resistance must reject and resist this.

Second. There can be no unity unless it is founded on basic principles. In today’s Iraq this specifically means that the emphasis must be on the unity and Arab character of Iraq, and any political or electoral activity under the occupation must be boycotted. Anything that grows out of such political or electoral activity must be rejected. This includes deals with foreign oil companies providing for the plunder of Iraq’s resources. The course of armed struggle and martyrdom action only against the occupation and its stooges must be affirmed, and the fight must be continued until the liberation of the last foot of Iraqi soil from the occupation has been achieved.

Third. We must act to provide material, political, and informational support for the Islamic and patriotic resistance in Iraq, exposing all the plots woven against it that are aimed at robbing it of its political role and preventing it from benefiting from its costly sacrifices. In this context we reaffirm that the Iraqi resistance must be regarded as the sole legitimate representative of the noble Iraqi people.

Fourth. Fronts for the support of the Iraqi resistance must be formed inside and outside Iraq on the above-mentioned basis.

On the level of the Arab Nation, defeating the plan for fragmentation demands among other things:

First: The masses of our Arab people, their political parties and trade unions and associations everywhere, must denounce and condemn the plot to partition Iraq as the preface for the re-partition of the Arab homeland on ethnic and sectarian bases. Intellectuals and militants committed to the welfare of the nation must send to all the sons and daughters of the Arab homeland a clear and unequivocal message about the crucially dangerous situation, pointing out that the resolution on the partition of Iraq is a criminal act whose destructive effects will outdo all the crimes committed by the American administration in Iraq and all the crimes committed by the Zionists in Palestine. It will potentially result in the severest damage being inflicted in every region of the Arab homeland in the form of massacres, civil wars, and social destruction.

Second. All the Arab resistance groups must come together and effect coordination between Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and wherever there is a liberation movement. “Each of the resistance movements in the Arab homeland must be regarded as objectively strengthening the others and serving the interests of the Arab Nation, leading to unity among them for the sake of joint action for the one common cause,” as the Declaration of the Arab Nationalist List issued on 17 July 2006 said in its call for support for the Lebanese resistance. Every resistance organization that refuses to support and back the resistance inside Iraq and in the other parts of the Arab homeland will bear an enormous responsibility for which it will be called to account before God, themselves, history, and the whole Arab Nation. This is true for all without exception, regardless of religious sect or ideological identity.

Third. Upholding the general principles of the Arab Nation must be affirmed at this historic stage, the most important being those laid out in the Arab Nationalist List meeting in the Arabian Gulf on 23 September 2005, and confirmed in the meeting of the Arab Nationalist List in Jordan on 18 March 2006, which declared:

“The participants affirmed that the ideal form for such an organized Arab people’s movement is not an organization or a party, but the form of a broad current based on the principle of pluralism within the boundaries of firm principles, chief among which are:

The Arab character of all Arab territory,

Refusal to cooperate with the enemies of the Arab Nation or with their political or non-political plans,

Affirmation of the Arab-Islamic cultural identity of the Arab homeland,

Regarding the Jews in Palestine as the foundation of the Zionist project, regardless of any leftist or humanitarian intentions or desires, and

Commitment to the course of resistance in political positions and practical work.

Fourth. A united Arab nationalist front must be established in the Arab homeland made up of all personalities and forces, of all leftist, Arab nationalist, and Islamic personalities committed to those principles. There is no value in having a front that is based on compromise agreements between right and wrong, compromises that quickly slide into what is unacceptable. Such a united Arab nationalist front constitutes the only historical solution that guarantees the defeat of all plans hostile to the Arab Nation and the attainment of the grand Arab goals of unity, liberation, and renaissance. If we want to triumph, we have no option but to set up an Arab popular front that comprises all the regions of the Arab homeland and to adopt this front a defensive and offensive program the axis of which is preservation of Arab identity and resistance to all hegemonic plans - be they American or some other; the defense of the independence and unity of the land and people of the Arab regions, in particular fraternal Iraq; the rejection of their subjugation to any international or regional forces; the adoption and strengthening of the culture of resistance – including the culture of resisting normalization and of boycotting American products; and absolute faith in the Arab character of the land, the need to struggle for its unification, upholding the course of armed struggle, and the liberation of all occupied Arab lands, and in the first place of all of the natural land of Palestine from the Jordan River to the sea.

The popular will of the Arab Nation expects honorable militants, freedom activists, and all the vital forces of the nation to couple their verbal rejection of partition with deliberate action of various types. The only effective practical response to the plans to partition Iraq lies in the unity of the Arab national and Islamic struggle, always on the basis of its firm principles, and via cementing the militant organic ties between the patriotic, Arab, and Islamic resistance movements, in particular those in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and the rest of the Arab regions. This is the least that can be done at this difficult stage through which the Great Arab Homeland from the Atlantic to the Gulf is now passing.

The Arab nationalist, patriotic, and Islamic forces and personalities today bear a historic responsibility, perhaps the greatest in the history of our nation. This is the responsibility to carry out deliberate and collective resistance to the great plot. They must put the supreme interests above those of parties or ideologies. The fact that the Arab regimes cannot be relied on for anything – if in fact they do not engage in complete collaboration with the enemies of the Arab Nation – only increases the importance of the task placed on the shoulders of all of us as Arab citizens.

Therefore we on the Arab Nationalist List believe that what is taking place once again confirms that the course of Arab unity is the only way to confront the plots for fragmentation and that the unity of all who believe in the rights of the Arab Nation, in its single destiny, and its struggle will be the force that will without doubt crush the plot to partition Iraq and re-partition the Arab homeland.

Long live the Iraqi patriotic and Islamic resistance, the sole legitimate representative of the people of Iraq!

67 pigs wounded

About 67 Israeli occupation soldiers were wounded after a rocket launched from northern Gaza landed on an Israeli military base in the western Negev early Tuesday morning. This is the largest number of casualties to date resulting from a single rocket attack. Three rockets were launched at around 1:30 am local time, from the area of the Palestinian town of Beit Hanoun. Two of the rockets landed in open areas, but one landed in the Zikim base, about 1 kilometer north of the Gaza Strip, next to a tent containing several Israeli soldiers from a battalion in basic training. 20 ambulances and two support helicopters were sent to the scene. In total, 65 soldiers arrived at the hospitals, some to be treated for shock.
Israeli army sources told daily Ynet that there were serious consequences as a result of a direct hit. "Sometimes there are direct hits, and then there are many casualties. That's what happened this time."
Despite the rocket threat on the region, it had been decided at the beginning of training that the new recruits would continue sleeping in tents. The attack on Zikim was claimed by the Salah eldeen Brigades - the military arm of the Public Resistance Committees. Shortly afterwards, the al-Quds Brigades – Islamic Jihad's military wing – also claimed responsibility for the lethal rocket and said they would release further details during a celebratory press conference later in the day. The operatives promised to continue similar activities.
Given the attack, it is unclear whether the Israeli army will change its current policy of pinpoint incursions to deal only with 'ticking bombs' in Gaza. "A military operation is not a trivial thing. We need to take several considerations into account, including casualties on our side. As such, the decision is not a simple or easy one," an Israeli military source told Ynet Tuesday.
Military sources also emphasized that although, "such an incident renews questions of how to act, we need to remember that we're not operating against only Qassams and any military action needs to target terror of all kinds. Even if we go out on a particular operation, there's no guarantee that rocket fire will come to a total halt," the sources added.
